Detroit only have two retention slots and 11 players on expiring contracts. They're not going to give one of them away for a measly 5th round pick.

Let's be honest. The Leafs don't really want anyone but Kane in that deal.

The deal should be structured to send Kane for a 1st round pick, Sandin, Knies and Salary retention. Additional pick to take back Kerfoot & Holl.

If Chicago was smart, they would dump Knies for Niemela. Not sure what Knies will be. Niemela looks like a star

It's already been blown up lol. Also how are you expecting Toronto to afford that? Value isn't close either in my opinion. Toronto giving up way too much.

I have no dog in this fight sir. Rental prices are what they are. Kane is a 100 point player any way you slice it. You have to give something up if you want him.

I also don't buy into this ageist thinking that he cannot be effective for another 3-4 years. He does not play with physicality. Yes he uses his agility but mostly his brain. Brains do not degenerate at 34.

never said you did, im just saying the leafs arnt doing that. They arnt gutting the future over a guy who has a good shot at being out scored by Nylander this year. And you may not buy into the ageist theory, but it is what it is. Except for a few rare gems, players fall off cliffs between the ages of 30-35, and usually very sharply, especially the closer they get up there. Look at as big a sample you want of skilled smart players and when they dropped off, you'll see Kane is right in that wheel house.

Kane is fine, why tf do they want Toews he isn’t even close to what he was, Kane is at least still a 70-90+ point guy

Hey, if you really believe Knies & Sandin are the "future", I get it. Personally I don't think the Leafs care much for Sandin and Knies will be a decent forward and of course the pick is valuable. I don't really think there's all that much future there. Keeping Matthews & Marner around is the future for the Leafs and the only way to do that is to get closer to a cup.

What? Giving up a king's ransom for 2 pending UFAs isn't a good idea? Lol

cheap elc depth that can slot up and down the line up is a vital part of any team that wants to continue to compete, it's the main reason Tampa just keeps on going. You keep trading those guys away, especially with 1sts and other picks going out too, you end up short because you cant fill in the holes for cheap. And if you are going to trade them, you dont trade them for guys in the twilight of their career with no term that will either walk or you have to sign to terrible deals to keep them around

TB has to be cap in cap out.
Detroit got a 4 and the paying of a 750k minor leaguer for 1.05 mil so basically 300k retention from TB for a 4 why on earth do they 2.65 mil for a 5 BHAHAHAHA. That's even more ridiculous if it's both Kane and Toews.
Toronto says f*** No eliminating the Boston trade,.
No need for CBJ

Toronto doesn't have the cap space, To take on Kane Toews and Domi at 50% off. You need to think about this before making those kinds of offers.

Detroit only has 2 retention slots left, 1 slot already goes to Panik. And Detroit has potentially 2 slots left and they're not wasting it on a worthless 5th round pick with potentially 11 UFAs available if we can't get both Bertuzzi and Larkin resigned.
