Could be a steal of a deal for MTL if he continues to grow his game

Solid contract. $3.4 is modest 3C money, no real downside for the team even if the Dach reclamation project isn't a major success.

I voted yes simply for the potential of this contract. If he improves under a fresh start in MTL, this could look good.

The fourth year is what raised the AAV, didnt prouve much so far so a bit risky but as Mtl, i believe he can be a steal.

Reasonable money for a 3C which is what he's now, and if he takes off, he'll be one year away from UFA which gives him plenty of leverage compared to if this deal expired a year or two earlier. I'd say it's pretty good for both parties.

Decent aav for a guy I believe will top out as an above average middle six forward, good signing by Hughes.

However, this doesn't change the fact that trading picks #13 and #66 to acquire this guy seem like a big mistake.

If he stays like he is (injured, underperforming) it'll be an overpay, but if he finds out a way to be the player he's supposed to be, this could be a steal!

This gives him time to show he can be a top 6 player. If he's not, there's no risk to it as it's just 4 years long.

High risk, high reward, Dach could stagnate and not do anything for the next four years or he could bloom into our 2c behind Suzuki, let's see how it plays out

That's not a usual contract for a forward coming out of his ELC. There's no real comparable if you use CF tool

I really dont mind the contract anyway. The WORST would be a buyout, which has almost 0 consequence for a player under 25 (which is the case for this contract).

I trust, like many, Hughes intelligence.

Based on his career thus far it is an overpayment, but this could turn into something.

Still, I voted no.

I dislike overpaying a 21 y.o.

Montreal had constant development problems with high potential players. (See Galchenyuk, Kotkaniemi, Leblanc,Tinordi, etc.)

They get all the attention and pressure, looses focus with puck bunnies and nightlife and end up never realising their potential.

I fail to see how giving a kid a who hasn't done anything a garanteed 12M is supposed to help avoid this scenario.

They just had to give him a bit less than Kakko's contract and make him work for his next payday. The salary cap will be going up by then anyway.

I'm not using the contract comparables tool, but I'd say Charlie Coyle getting $3.2M x 5 in 2014 coming off his ELC after putting up 35 Pts in 82 GP is pretty close to Dach getting $3.3625M x 4 after putting up 26 Pts in 70 GP.

I mean Leblanc and Tinordi didn’t have much potential. Max 3c or 5-6 D with size

The guy might thrive for the next few years making this contract somewhat of a steal.

I wouldn't have counted on this if this were still under the old Habs management.

But I'll trust the Gordon-Hughes-StLouis new style to give Dach the best chances to success.

I'd rather overpay a younger player for potential than an older player for what he did last season. Besides, we have a good track record with stealing Chicago centers and getting good value out of them.

Could easily be a steal, especially with all of Montréal's young talent
Not too expensive, so if he busts it's not too much of a issue
8/10 good sign

Overpay rn but if he progresses it’ll probably end up being a fair to good deal.
