that's all short term deals. 4 years after ELC is not common. Maybe Coyle as someone said

and half of this bunch already signed more lucrative contracts after their short bridge. So if Dach develops it can really be a bargain deal

Was MIN satisfied with that Coyle contract? wink

Only Thomas broke the bank. McCann and Bennett signed around 4.5M AAV. So basically Hughes comits to 4 years, overpays 1M on the first 2 years with the hope of saving 1M on the last 2 years. Not worth it.

They're doing a complete rebuild..

Not really sure how trading a 21 YO former 3rd Overall pick makes sense, but I'm not gonna complain

That’s what I’m saying lol

I think he's done enough to be their 3-line centre, which is all he needs to do to justify the cost. Plus, he's still an RFA at the end, so the term is good as well.

He hasn't done anything to warrant this contract. If chicago wants you gone. You know it's not good

I'm not using the contract comparables tool, but I'd say Charlie Coyle getting $3.2M x 5 in 2014 coming off his ELC after putting up 35 Pts in 82 GP is pretty close to Dach getting $3.3625M x 4 after putting up 26 Pts in 70 GP.

The salary cap was also around 20 million less so coyles was a lot bigger actually if you go by %of salary cap

Chicago is trading anybody and everybody. Debrincat should've stayed, Hagel Should've stayed, and Dach should've stayed.

I voted yes.
The Habs believe in this player and his potential.
This contract demonstrates that.

I think for that reason alone, its a good deal until proven otherwise.

Bennett 21y.o.63P/159G 2x2M
McCann 22y.o.53P/166G 2x2.25M
Lundestrom 22y.o. 44P/151G 2x1.8M
Chytil 21y.o. 71P/186G 2x2.3M
Thomas 21.y.o. 87P/169G 2x2.8M
Mittelstadt 22y.o. 61P/155G 3x2.5M

Dach 21y.o. 59P/152G 4x3.7M

Worst deal of the bunch for sure.

best player with most potential out of the bunch for sure*

need I remind you he was drafted 3rd overall? And it wasn't a KK-like surprise pick, he was guaranteed top five. If he realizes his potential, he'll blow the rest of the names you mentioned out of the water

Ok, if you say so.

Bennet was drafted 4th and scored 28 goals last year. I highly doubt Dach could reach that mark.

Bennett is four years older than Dach. I have little doubt Dach will at the very least reach Bennett's point plateau of 50 by the time he's that age.

How on Earth does Montreal give Dach this contract? He has done absolutely nothing to earn it. Of course, if he finally decides to start being a good player, it could look like a genius decision. Right now, it just looks dumb as hell.

You know there's literally a tool on this website where you can do that?

There isn't, actually. And how were the Lindholm and Roy deals even remotely similar to Dach's?

Bro just do some research before replying. There's a tool that allows you to compare contracts. You have almost 15k posts on this website and you don't even know it's features? SMH

Bro, neither of those player's you listed had any situation that was slightly comparable to Dach's. Roy's second deal was below 1M and his third was earned at 25. Lindholm has been underpaid for his performance on both his 2nd and 3rd deal, which again came much later than age 21.

Roy at 25 had 59 points in 163 games. Very comparable to Dach's stats before he signed his 3m X 5
Lindholm's contract at 20 was 2.7m x 2 and he had 60 points in 139 games. Those are just 2 random contracts I picked to make a point. Literally go on the tool and look at them. It happens all of the time. I don't understand why you are arguing with me right now when you can prove yourself wrong with 3 clicks.

Before we even get to the player cases, let's be clear that there is no "paid too much too soon" filter on any search engine here. So I have no idea why you keep acting like that's a thing to be found here. Secondly, by reducing everything to just points per game, you're glossing over a whole lot that separates these cases. As for Roy, 1) he's a defensive center (and still coming off a season that was far better offensively than anything Dach has done) & 2) again, he's not 21. He has been a rink tilting player a few seasons now. And Lindholm had already had two .5 ppg seasons before his 2nd deal, which was half as short and 600K+ smaller than Dach's. So he was considerably better at that age and got considerably less of a deal. These are obviously not apt comparisons. At all.
