Fantilli MTL loses the Bedard sweepstakes

Description
MTL comes ahead of only ARZ who wins their 1st ever 1st OA pick in 2023 i predict(their hailmary would be Bedard)
MTL comes in 3rd OA after the draft Lotto losing a position but landing Fantilli in the process.
FLA pick is 26th OA same as this years

MTL at the 2023 Draft trades Carey Price to SJS for Karlsson
This will be just after MTL sells off 5(+2 AHL) UFA at the TDL
We'll be at that point where we'll have the cupboards stocked enough to compete for real.
Karlsson can fill the big shoe's that Weber and Petry left on PP
Its just a shame Hoffman and him had a falling out as they were lethal on PP together

Roy i suspect jumps right to the NHL after 2022-23 season.
He'll have a big year as he'll compete in his 2nd U-20 tournament in December in less then 6 months.
This will be ontop of becoming the 5th Back to Back winner of the QMJHL Jean Belliveau Award for top point producer.
Likely to jump straight to the NHL because of his high end playmaking and the void on 2nd pair RD beside 2 Quality Goal Scoring Prospects.

As Lethal as Anderson-Suzuki-Caufield was and is
Slavkovsky-Dach-Roy has the potential to be so much more if all 3 click like Tatar/Danault/Gally

This build is about competing sooner then later but its mostly about giving the youth a few
Choice Veterans to learn from in area's we have hole's while we let anyone with UFA status go basically.

Also dont panic Ghule and Barron are in Laval playing top minutes for their 2nd year.
The hope is we can pull them up straight into a top 6 role at 20-22 minutes a night .
Trade Eddy and Wideman at the TDL if those 2 are on fire at the AHL level .
Otherwise just leave them there as long as they're waiver exempt

MTL will then have depth at the NHL and AHL level on standby for Defense.
For offense its more of a make or break for many players promoted as RHP will surely push out someone (too good to be held down)

  1. Karlsson, Erik (1 000 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
SJS Gets
-#26 OA pick
-#34 OA pick
-#98th OA pick
-Hoffman to sell at the TDL at 50% RS SJS can RS again to bring it to 1.125m for TDL sale given that he's a PP specialist who scored 49.5% of his points there teams will be interested at that cap

SJS gets a return then can get behind while securing cap space to move forward with allowing them to be more active in the trade market and free agency
SJS
  1. Hoffman, Mike (2 250 000 $ retained)
  2. Price, Carey
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (FLA)
  4. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (MTL)
Détails additionnels:
MTL gives up a decent amount and yes Karlsson is overpaid but he's also still a really good player and actually fits our timeline for what we'll need after acquiring Lundkvist .

This way MTL can compete straight after the Bedard draft by leading the way from the PP and the blue line.
2.
MTL
  1. Lundkvist, Nils
Détails additionnels:
MTL gets a top 4 RD prospect they need to play with Barron long term as it looks more and more likely Mailloux will play bottom pair/special teams role.

Behind Karlsson i think Lundkvist will develop into a top shelf D giving MTL back its strong Right Side.

Both players have similar value and fill a need for each organization by taking away from an area they are deeper at
NYR
  1. Kidney, Riley
Détails additionnels:
Riley finished top 15 (11th) in QMJHL Faceoffs after having a career year he joined team Canada to win a Gold. His role there wasnt as offensive as one would have like but his primary role is as a Faceoff Center.

Middle 6 Faceoff Center that is comparable to Jean Gabriel Pageau in many ways.

Sharks do this if they are truly committed to their rebuild, dont do it if they arent. Would Price waive his NMC to go to San Jose knowing they're rebuilding, though?

Yes as i said he will be retired for all intensive purposes .
I think like Weber he doesnt care where his contract goes as long as someons paying him

Price might make a return but i highly doubt it and if anything it will be similar to Ben Bishop where each potential return he doesnt get the thumbs up from doctors or coaches.
Once the Knee's go on a big goalie like Price thats all she wrote as its such an Endurance Trial 60 minutes a game 50+ games a year not including practice

ok apparently he's not the cap dump i thought based on his numbers , cap and his NTC limiting ANA potential suitors pool i figured Gibsons value wouldnt be much more then Allens (despite him playing better at less then half the cap)

I just took him because he was over paid , likely not to be missed and has atleastt 900% saves and wasnt over or atleast much over 3.00GAA
If he's an untouchable sorry i miss understood how much you were attached to him
It might just be easier to resign allen given there not far off from the role they'd play

If that's the numbers of a Franchise Goalie i think we define it differently in Canada
But ok good enough i just took Gibson as he was overpaid and underperforming
But if you still want him my bad , Mike Smith can fulfill the same role if he wasnt injured for a fraction of the cost
So could Jake Allen for that matter as Gibsons without a Miller or Anderson has been simply forgettable since he signed that new deal

I already just moved on to signing Jarry
It was easier and i actually got a good Goalie who can Start this way not just a Tandem goalie who will play mediocre.
Gibson i took cause he lit up beside Anderson and Miller so i was just hoping for the same reaction but a lot of things had to go just right.
This way i know from day 1 i got a reliable starting goalie for less then Gibson was paid

Problem solved

Not untouchable but it doesnt make sense for the Ducks to sell him for Pennies on the dollar.

The Ducks have no reason to move him at all, its going to take more than anyone on here thinks hes worth.

If the Ducks trade him they will be trading him as a top 10 goalie in the league, and want compensation that matches that, anything less isnt worth it for ANA

If a team is trading for a goalie with 4 years at 6.4M left on his deal, they would be doing so knowing they are getting a top 10 goalie in the league. Gibson will never be moved as anything close to a cap dump

Gibson surely doesnt make sense for a team like the Habs imo

But he's not a top 10 goalie in the league for going on 5 years
Thats like me trying to sell you Carey Price based on yestardays value isnt it?
I mean if i thought i was getting a top 10 Goalie you're right i'd pay more
I see him more as a 25th-30th OA goalie(But come playoffs could return be top 10 given there's only 16 teams )

There was a poll by execs/players/team personnel (to be fair at the start of last season) that ranked Gibson as a top 10 goalie still

It doesnt make sense for the Ducks to trade him for nothing of value.

Players are constantly valued for past performance in the NHL.

Im not saying Gibson is a top 10 goalie, but the NHL and people that can actually make decisions on trades and moves still see Gibson as valuable.

The Ducks are in a position where they can just ride out his contract, When Dotsal/Clang are ready to take over they will be cheap and Gibson can be a back up and the Ducks goalie room will still cost under 9M AAV (Assuming one of Clang/Dotsal make around 2M AAV)

I would much rather draft our next Karlsson than trade for him. Adding EK now would be a bad move IMHO. Not lined up with the direction of the team at all. He's already declining hard and will be cap liability when this team is ready to compete for a cup. CP at the very least will be on LTIR so the Habs can maneuver adding players on a yearly basis to fill up that cap. Based on where this team is, I would much rather have all our pieces than adding EK at his current age. Im not entirely sure I would take on EK on waivers with his current contract. Not even exaggerating.
