Interesting Jets trade. It’s been pretty widely reported that they don’t want to retain any salary on wheeler and that causes issues for MIN here. Also I doubt Zucc is waiving to go to Winnipeg.

I think if jets can get past the retention they likely accept.

The jets deal is an intriguing one.
Zuccarello is more valuable than Wheeler IMO, but not by that much
Ive always thought Dumba was good, but his stats don't really back that up and the jets probably lose him after this season to free agency.
I guess it's kind of a lateral move for both teams? maybe just adding different types of players to the roster?? I dont know haha

Ignoring the trades being good or bad for Minnesota (I'd describe them as horrible, but to each their own), you have $238k in cap space with a 20 man roster so that should be fun once the first injury hits. Next year, you have $5.6m cap space with the expectation the cap will go up another $1m and only 14 players signed with Matt Boldy needing a new deal that will take up a good chunk of that. So basically you've taken a team with cap challenges and somehow made them worse.

If the picks were in 2023 I would think ur right. That being said I’m not sure what Hartman would look like without Kaprizov, and idk where he would fit in NY.

The Wild are probably the last team in the league interested in old/aging and expensive players.
The only way I would ever consider trading for any of these pieces is if they were part of a 3-way trade and they never wear a Wild sweater!

Hartman produced very well last year with Kaprizov, so he could be a guy you could slot next to Barzal. A top line of Hartman-Barzal-Wahlstrom or Beauvillier-Barzal-Hartman doesn’t look too bad to me. Greenway could slot in on the third line left wing where Bailey plays, so a guy like Parise would be on the 4th line, and Martin/Johnston would be scratches. If this deal was just for Nelson I’m not sure I’d accept it, but it’s for Nelson AND Bailey, so we free up cap room enabling a big move if necessary. The prospect and picks are just icing on the cake

I like Zuccarello, but he isn't waiving for Winnipeg. Other than that, I think Minnesota can get more for Dumba if they want to move him.

How is it islanders reject this deal? Minnesota wouldn't trade Hartman for Nelson straight up, much less add here.

So somehow Nelson is worth three 1st round picks, how? How do people not see this is a trolling towards wild fans from a jets / Nashville fan?

Hartman can’t really play wing imo. He’s kind of like Strome that way.

I mean Greenway isn’t worth a first. Hartman probably is tho so I get ur point there. Look, I don’t know that this is unfair to either team. But I got to be honest here and say idk that I trust Hartman enough to make this deal. Idk what he would look like without Kaprizov. He’s really good, but I don’t like the fit in NY.

The retention hurts the Bailey argument, but I agree from a cap perspective that you would have to consider it.

I still think you may be able to move bailey by the deadline tho. But tbh I think the isles r better off just letting him finish out his contract in NY. He’s still a useful middle six piece and I don’t think we would complain about his contract if not for the flat cap.

Well, you've made the Wild almost impossible to be cap compliant, worse and traded away futures in the process so from their standpoint? Absolutely not lol

Any trade(s) that leave one team with a 20 man roster with 200k left in cap space and significantly older typically don't work. Especially when that team is paying futures to do so

Greenway will easily get a 1st. Easy. This is unfair to Minnesota, so Minnesota wouldn't do it based on Nelson isn't worth Hartman, Greenway, 1st and more. He's not worth a 1st abd Greenway either.

I wouldn’t trade a first for Greenway tbh — I like him tho. I also would rather keep Nelson over trading for Hartman.

That being said I agree this trade is TERRIBLE for Minnesota. I just think it’s one of those deals which will probably hurt both teams anyway. Nelson and Lee are a very productive second line because of how they play together. I wouldn’t want to break that up.

Well, Nelson scored almost 40 goals this past season. He's been the Isles' top scorer for the past three years. Plus a return home for players can prove to make them better(applies to Wheeler and Schmidt as well)

We don't give a damn about Minnesota players and our gm doesn't either. Stop trying to bait. Minnesota isn't taking on Nelson's contract
