Description
Patrick Kane played with McDavid at the Biosteel Camp with McDavid. Connected writer Kurt Leavins (who was the 1st to mention a fees moves over the past 3 years) discussed what it would take to acquire Kane in a recent article. This smoke has been visible for months, Kane holds all the cards.

There is rumour (Treenasoil on Twitter) that Oilers & NHLPA are grieving the disallowed Cap Credit from the Keith retirement, as they should. If the NHL overturns their original decision, Barrie will not need to be moved. Might explain why he hasn’t been traded yet.

      Let me see if I get this ;
Montreal goes after Barrie? Bahaha that's funny.
Cash strapped AZ who was locked out of their building, and offices for not paying rent. ,Also owing back taxes to city and State.. They are going to lay out 2.6 million for a 3,5 and a guy drafted 6 years ago with 20 NHL games, while giving up 1 of 2 remaining retention spots? This is pure fantasy Island stuff . Boss the plane, the plane boss.

I know, right? Because Wideman is a superior defenseman and because of Barrie’s first 3 months where he was used incorrectly by Babcock the Great in Toronto has influenced fan opinion. He got 39 points in 70 games that year. What Habs Dman will come close to that?

Over the past 7 years Barrie has been a top 10 offense-generating NHL RHD and is on a value contract. He is an uncommon commodity, full stop. That is worth a lot, especially to a team with nothing for offense (except for NHL part-timer Wideman) on the back end.

Clearly Barrie is worth a helluvalot more than a 4th liner. Barrie averages more points in a season than Evans has in his career.

Right, because 3 years of a cost-controlled contract for a 13 goal 4th line RHC with playoff experience has no value, in exchange for a offensively challenged 4th line RHC.

Jake Evans (last season on a horrible defensive team) last 2 seasons: -2, (Montreal -98 last yr).
Michael McLeod: -25 (NJD -59 last season).

      Okay boss

The Devils should definitely take this if offered.
Don't see why MTL would do that trade in the first place however.

McLeod is worthless, but it's a matter of cap space. Boqvist is cheaper and possibly better than Evans

Boqvist has loads of offensive potential. My team has been exactly where NJ is now, for years. If your bottom 6 can keep the goal differential even, or outscore, this has extreme value. Evans does that, McLeod does not (he needs a fresh start).

With Bernier on LTIR there is cap room and the cap is going up over the next 3 seasons, so this is not a big deal.

Because this is they have no offense coming from the defense:

Erratic Matheson - finally had a 30 pt season
      KHL Wideman - 3 of 7 years a full-time NHLer
      Also -25, worst on team
      Edmunson - 26 goals over 7 seasons
Savard - Over 30 pts, 8 yrs ago
      Harris - 10 NHL games
      Barron - 5 NHL games

Barrie: 2 years younger than Wideman and would be a superior PP option. Mtl has offensive weapons, a PP QB like Barrie would really help this team that has a DCorpse lacking experienced NHLers. 50% are essentially AHL quality.

The best defense, as per SC Cup Champion Darryl Sutter is to possess the puck more than the other team. Barrie halos a lot with that. Seems to be a no-brainer to me, but Habs fans are loving 1st Overall picks…

The Devils' bottom 6/taxi squad is set to look something like this:
      Tatar Haula Sharangovich/Holtz
      Wood McLeod Bastian
      Foote Boqvist Zetterlund

Acquiring Evans would box out our younger and cheaper talent and turn Boqvist and Zetterlund into waiver bait.

Fair enough, but most teams have the same concerns, but that should not prevent management from acquiring players. A 3 yr contract is a big deal.

Maybe they put a vet like Tartar on waivers or Bastian or Wood. This stuff happens every single year, but honestly not something to prevent a trade for a proven vet. So many talented players like the 2 Swedes never become NHL regulars.

Tatar should not be waived unless he shows up to camp and sucks. If he bounces back this year it will be huge for the Devils' depth scoring. Wood is probably injured and won't play, Bastian will at worst be scratched.

My point regarding Tartar that vets on “big contracts” have been waived (but on a paper transaction where they don’t report to the AHL team) knowing that they would be unlikely to be claimed due to cap hit.

      There are lots of options.
