The Jets should not under any circumstances put their first for the next few years in play for any rental. Unless it is a superstar player with term, the Jets should put their first off limits.

Right now there are only 6 teams that can absorb Schmidt's awful cap hit: Anaheim, Arizona, Buffalo, Chicago, Detroit and Ottawa. (Dallas doesn't count because they still have to re-sign Jason Robertson.) I don't see any one of those bottom-feeders having any interest in Schmidt, so I think you're stuck with him for the duration.
