According to Russo, Guerin's been trying to move Kulikov all summer long.

No one was biting. The trade got him off the books and freed up capspace and got us down to 7 defenseman.

I wish he had put in an offer tbh. Waddell would likely have given up actual assets for Dmitry vs the GOAT Future Considerations we wound up with.

Of course, Russo did mention in his latest podcast today that Guerin did have multiple trades he was working on this summer that didn't pan out.

So it's possible Waddell did in fact try for Kulikov, but negotiations fell short. 🤷‍♂️

Russo's podcast only dropped this morning and had just been recorded last night, just in time to record right after Steel had been signed. So a decent chunk of it was talking about signing Steel.

But one of the reasons why Guerin waited so long to sign Steel was because he was in talks for potential trades that didn't pan out and because of his doing his due diligence on Steel.

What those potential trades were, we have no idea.

After the Kulikov trade, when Russo published his article at the Athletic on the subject he mentioned that Guerin had been trying to move Kulikov all summer long and that he hadn't been garnering much interest, if at all.

So it's all purely speculative at this point.

It might be because there are quite a few LDs who are rumored to be available, ofc all have higher cap hits than Kulikov and probably most require assets to obtain but I guess that isn't a bad thing for interested teams who may need to move some cap anyways.
