Description
Saw some other acgms with similar trades, some said WSH wasn’t giving up enough since Iorio is not a very established asset yet, and Eller has somewhat negative value, so I added Lapierre in - not sure if that’s too much now.

Saw some proposing a Hoglander/Soderstrom swap, which I think could be a great idea, but wanted to put more into the trade to allow a contract dump with Dickinson as well.

Arizona isn’t turning themselves into the new Vancouver RHD. I don’t know if I need to shout this from the rooftops or what, but the yotes don’t have much behind söderstrom, they don’t need a winger. If you want to trade a top 9 winger for a RHD, then LA is your best bet. This is not a fit, the hoglander-söderstrom swap idea needs to go

Seems like every team isn’t looking to move RHD, but I guess that’s what makes them so valuable. If I posted this for a rhd from LA like Durzi I would get the same response. Just a trade idea, not something that I think is gonna happen

There’s a difference between teams though. LA has an abundance of RHD, people are going to get moved. The minute Arizona moves söderstrom, they’re the new canucks looking for anything at RD. There’s swaps to be made from a position of strength like Vancouver has with wings in hoglander, to teams that are weak at wing but strong in other areas. Arizona is just not that fit, which I’ve been emphasizing on the swaps that focus on those 2

As is, that WSH trade is asking wayyy too much.
1) Iorio is pretty established, especailly over this summer. During the development camp, Iorio played great and really established himself as a potential top 2 puck moving defender.
2) 2023 is seen as the deepest draft in recent history apparently
3) Lapierre is supposed to be a top 6 center
4) Eller is not a negative asset - he has 1 year left and is quite good defensive. Yes, he had a sub-par year last season, but he was dealing with injuries and inconsistent lines (due to other injuries).

The most the Caps should give up for Miller (yes Miller is great, but the Caps don't necessarily NEED him):
Lapierre
Eller

Canucks really need a rhd coming back in a Miller trade so maybe if Iorio was kept in they would have to move the first to a 2024 instead of 2023

Also I forgot to mention but I would assume Miller re-signs with WSH in this scenario

Fair enough, thanks for the reply in detail. Good to know what the value has. I don’t think the value is far off of Miller re-signs with WSH, and maybe VAN has another asset going back to WSH to move the needle. Possibly even switch the 23 first to a 24 since the value of each is quite different right now.

1. Iorio is more likely to be a third pairing guy than a top 2 guy.
2. Gonna have to give to get if you want a recent 99 point player, and a point per game player over the past 3 seasons.
3. Lapierre is supposed to be a top 6 center. Miller is a top line center
4. Eller is a throw in, no real value but to just take some salary back

That’s pretty much how I drew it up too. Iorio has really good upside but it is still an unknown. Lapierre is a great piece coming back and the 1st I would assume is the starter for any deals for Miller. Eller was more so to bring money back and fill that 3rd line center spot.

Oh boy - this guy is back...

Weren't you the same dude who called Fehervary a "no name depth player" wink

Here is another hot take: Iorio is a third pairing guy! You definitely should read up on him if you think that.

Miller isn't a necessary need for the Caps so no, the Caps don't have to "give to get". But anyways, not going to argue - Pointless to argue with you since you don't seem to know other prospects terribly well.

The trade makes sense don't get me wrong. Your thought process is valid.

I just, as a Caps fan, hope the Caps don't give up that much. Nothing against Miller, he is a great player. Just not a necessary need for the Caps.

Thanks, it’s good to hear both sides regardless! That’s what this site is about. Would much prefer to hear your reasons why WSH shouldn’t pursue this, as you did, rather than just “caps pass”.

Glad to know that this could be in the ballpark though if Washington was high on Miller and really wanted to make a push while Ovi is still on his game.

Nope. I was the guy that said that he would be a depth player on the Canucks, most likely third pair behind Hughes and OEL

Washington has no use for Dipietro. There’s no reason to include him, he’s zero value. The Caps are not going to pay the equivalent of three (3) 1st Rd Picks (Lapierre, Iorio, 1st) for JT Miller as a rental. If Miller is re-signed the Capitals aren’t going to pay the Canucks for the right to then also pay Miller. This is a Canuck fanboi dream and is not going to happen.

DiPietro has some value but I I understand why theres no need to include him in this trade. Also, Iorio wasn’t a first round pick, he was a late 2nd round. If his value is at a 1st round pick like you say, Miller would be worth much more by that same metric as a guy who plays all aspects of the game, hit near 100 points last season, and has been over a ppg since getting to Vancouver.

Is WSH is serious about Miller then this trade is not a “Canuck fanboi dream”, if their not serious then VAN can get a better offer than what the caps would give. I’m not saying this trade will happen but it’s not lobsided.

Wsh isn’t going to offer this and Van isn’t going to get better offers. That time has come and gone. Van will either re-sign Miller or trade him for much less than what is being suggested here as he will be a pure rental. Considering Millers reported contract demands no team is going to pay a premium to negotiate a deal with him.
