I don't think either team does it, TOR definitely doesn't. Johnson is not NHL caliber and the Hawks retaining on him is not ideal. They only have one retention spot left in this scenario. They likely end up flipping Marner and retaining on him to get max value.

You really have to get into the habit of looking at how your proposed trades affect and are affected by the other teams' cap situation. Aside from the absolutely horrendous value mis-evaluation, Muzzin to Los Angeles is impossible unless Toronto takes back an equivalent cap amount.

The first rounders are on the wrong side in the chicago trade. How does trading Marner make this team better? Kane is equal point wise but I don't think he backchecks like Marner or is on the top PK? So let's call that a wash, with the leafs losing the younger player with the higher ceiling. No sense at all.
