I think you're a bit low for all three Centers and Severson.

Horvat cant get less than 6.5.. Can he?
Miller and Petey likely both 8.5.
Severson probly starts with a 6.

Just my two cents.

If guys like Tage Thompson get 7.14x7 for one good season, Pettersson is getting 9-10+

Doubtful. Unless he’s has a huge season this year. Never scored a point per game and highest goal pace is 32 goals in 82 games.

Thomas, Thompson, Norris all just signed deals similar to this or smaller.

This represents a 700k discount from his qualifying offer which is similar to the discount Boeser took off of his.

The only way Pettersson gets more than this is if he has a career this season with close to 40 goals and close to 90 points

Miller I have signing a 7 year deal which is why I did 8 AAV.

Horvat I have signing an 8 year deal. He has little ground to stand on to justify a significantly high cap hit that trocheck or Copp or Ryan Strome or RNH. 6-6.25 should be the max otherwise it’s an overpay imo.

Severson getting paid pretty fairly here considering his track record and point production history

Tage Thompson scored 38 goals last year. Petterssons best scoring season is a 32.5 goal pace

Strome could have been asking for more from NYR but when he hit the market he knows he's not going to have too much leverage. As for RNH he probably could have gotten a lot more from the Oilers but he did them a solid, maybe Horvat does the same but if he does get 6.5mx8 I wouldn't be surprised. As for Pettersen, his production is going to matter but he is an extremely talented player, and if he were to hit free agency he would get paid. So, they might have to overpay him to keep him around as long as he's considered their top young player (might be Podolzkin soon).

It’s definitely a “what have you done for me lately” league when it comes to signing contracts. Doesn’t matter what you did in your rookie season, it matters what you will do for the lifetime of your contract. Tage Thompson showed he is capable of scoring over 30 goals, he got paid for it. Pettersson has also showed he’s capable of scoring over 30, but nothing more yet.

I still gave him a $1 million AAV bump plus an additional year on the contract for the fact he has been more consistent compared to Thompson, but 30 goal 75 point guys don’t tend to get the 9-10 million dollar deals

Horvat will have the same leverage as Strome if he hits the open market. RNH had is AAV come down because of the 8 years. Ken Holland acknowledged this in the press conference after the signing that RNH compromised the AAV and Edmonton compromised the Term. Same thing here with Horvat.

Unfortunately what’s realistic for a contract today probably won’t be realistic in a year when they can actually extend him. I expect he’ll have a very good year points-wise in 22/23.

If he blows up in 2022/2023 I have no problem opening the vault for him. If he doesnt, Canucks need to drive a bargain

Yeah, that's true about Horvat on the open market, but maybe Vancouver wouldn't want to let him go, I wouldn't be surprised though if Horvat did play hardball that he would end up hitting free agency. In the case with the RNH, both sides might have felt like they compromised, but Landeskog got 7mx8 and I feel like he thought he was probably due more since he nearly hit free agency. If you look at RNH and Landeskog they are comparables in terms of production. As the Captain of the team, I wouldn't be surprised if Horvat wants something closer than 6mx8 to 7mx8. Obviously, Landeskog and RNH are producing at around 0.1 PPG more than Horvat, so it's probably going to have to be 6.5m max, but 6m is reasonable as well. Really depends on what they come agree to perhaps he takes much less like RNH.
