I'm gonna sound like a hater and you'd probably be right to think so, but I promise this isn't Metro division rivalry crap. Offense is not an issue for CBJ. Your forward core is playoff-worthy IMO. Stopping goals and preventing chances are the issues. Until that gets resolved, I personally don't think it matters what guns you add up front.

That said, this would certainly be an entertaining team. Scores would probably be 6-4 every night.

I think that’s a pretty fair perception. Peeke and Gudbranson being a heavy and defensive third pair should help that, with Gavrikov and Jiricek providing a bit of that on each of the top two pairs. IMO the forward’s defensive play needs to improve, and Werenski has shown the potential to be good defensively but needs a better partner. Jiricek is a dude.

Last year Merzlikins and Korpi dealt with a bunch of injuries and Korpi was just bad, so there is reason to believe the goaltending will bounce back a bit as well. I think they are trending towards not only scoring more but also stopping more, but like you said, they’ll be a fun team to watch again this year.

Gudbranson is a weird dman to me in the respect he's not nearly as bad as people make him out to be, but he's also not that great. Yes, he has a heavy style of play and his skating is underrated, but he's not good positionally. In a sheltered role he will definitely perform better. Time will tell with the other guys you mentioned to see how they develop, but the bigger issue to me last year is that you purged shots and high danger chances. CBJ had the 2nd worst shots against and really weren't that far at all from #1 AZ and were 5th in high danger chances against.

So to your point, the forwards need to be better defensively, too. Elvis needs to be better, but it may not matter if the defense is swiss cheese like that again. That's really why I think the defense needs to be address more than the forwards, but again, that would be a fun group watch.

This meets a lot of needs for Vancouver so I have to assume they accept. Roster player to get through this season, right handed young centre, young rhd that could play with Hughes, and a 1st sounds good to me. Maybe the 1st could be 2023 but lottery protected as well

Bemstrom does not play center but can play either wing.

I see him listed as a centre on most sites but fair enough, still a decent asset in the trade.

I don’t disagree with your assessment.
Jarmo and the Jackets will probably just stand pat for now and ride the fist few months with this team as is.
The defensive problems last year were more a function of the offensive players than the defensive players
Back in the day, Rick Nash was known for scoring, but rarely skate back within his own blue line. With Laine not the best defensively, Chinakov being young and offensively focused, etc., and very young/inexperienced centers, it put a ton of pressure on the team defensively last year.
I think Roslovic, Sillinger and Jenner will be better than they were defensively, and Elvis needs to step up and make a few more spectacular game-saving stops like Bob did on many occasions.
