First of all, if Stastny signed in Vegas, it would have been for more money than what he signed for in Carolina. Secondly, Stastny saw how Vegas has treated their players, and how they threw away Patches for nothing, who is a very close friend to Stastny mind you, and he saw the writing on the wall. I mean, would you sign with a team that allows their players to find out they have been traded via Twitter? Or a team that will throw you away at the first opportunity of getting a new shiny toy?

Not to mention, the difference as it stands between Vegas and Carolina is who is a contender. There is a lot of uncertainty that Vegas even makes the playoffs this year, with losing Patches and Lehner, and the question marks still surrounding Eichel. Whereas Carolina is almost a sure fire playoff team. At Stastny’s point in his career, he has just proven that he wants to win more than he wants to cash in. He has a really good shot of doing that with the Canes, one that he really doesn’t have with Vegas this year.

Further to the point, which I think does the Vegas franchise a lot of damage, is Pacioretty telling the world about how the organization lacks any level of accountability.

This message, coming from a respected leader, will resonate with many NHL players, making them think twice about ever signing there...... money be damnned.
