Zadina not the easiest piece to move on from but a first (even top ten protected) is an amazing return for a piece in Zadina that (it looks to an outsider) like DET is pretty sure they don’t want to develop.

Jusso just a gamble. But could work out. About the same amount of warts as Zadina.

Valimaki for Xadina is pretty close to fair as both need a change of scenery, giving up a 1st on top of Valimaki would be downright stupid.

Interesting idea, but a 1st is too rich. Maybe Valimaki + a 2nd + 7th Round Pick. Rasmussen instead of Zadina and/or Veleno instead of Erne might also be of interest

Detroit have Edvinsson, Johansson, Viro, Wallinder, Buium, McIsaac, Sebrango as LD prospects that will be needing roster spots in one or two years time.

There's been a few of these type of trades on CFACGM lately. Maybe they've always been here. I just didn't notice. Trades where UFA's who were just signed being traded before even playing a game for their new teams.

Last week a poster wanted Detroit to trade Kubalik who just signed as a UFA. Why? Wouldn't Yzerman want to see how he plays first? Good way of getting UFA's to sign with you in the future. LOL

Now Zadina was a RFA. But the same criteria applies. Yzerman just signed him to a 3 year deal. Is this so he's easier to trade? Or is he hoping Zadina breaks out and he has him signed at a decent cost for 3 years?

I think he went three years in part for the extra trade value of that contract. Selling hope to the other GM.

I do like the points about neither player being worth firsts. I totally agree. But if Treliving is going to pull off one more aggressive move for a top nine RHS winger I think the 2023 first (protected) is the primary asset other GMs are going to target.

If they could get this trade value for Zadina you have to take it. Zadina is 23 and just about to the age where prospects are what they are. Zadina is 3/4th liner and not going to be able to stay on the PP2 unit....and you get a 1st rounder out of it. Grab it and run.

Could probably get CAR's Martin Necas for Valimaki + a 1st, which is far more ideal given he's a Right Shot, but he is almost twice the Cap hit @ $3mil/yr x 2yrs.

Would only want/need Erne if Lucic was moved, but CGY could just sign Aston-Reese for $750k with no acquisition cost
