We're talking Ken Holland here, Ken Holland isn't capable of making moves like this.
Detroit passes, Bertuzzi is worth far more than Bouchard and a late 3rd round pick. And i guess you missed the memo were Bertuzzi still can't play in Canada.
Vax status makes this unlikely, but being traded to a Canadian team would mean he'd miss a ton of games . He'd have to stay in Canada, so you figure 41 home games and what, 15 games away in Canada? So 56 or so games he gets paid, and misses another 26 or so. That costs him about a third of his salary.
Unless the vax rules change in Canada, Bertuzzi has strained value. Of course, if the rules changed, Bertuzzi is a very hot commodity that will have a bidding war at the deadline if Detroit is out of playoff contention and not close to a deal to re-sign Bertuzzi.
I'd be quite happy to add Bouchard. The downside is Bertuzzi is not easily replaced, for what he brings to the table. Hronek becomes very tradeable as well, so maybe a team like LA (or any team with a deep pool at forward and a need for a top 4D) will part with a good forward prospect to add Hronek.
If no vax issues, I'd say Bouchard and the low 1st would be pretty fair. Bouchard was Edmonton's best D in the playoffs, and is easily a top 4D already, better than Hronek, whom I am not as down on as many others are.
