They really must like his game if they're doing this before he's even played a single shift for them. Low risk extension though

Guess they want him as the bottom pairing d-man instead of Fleury.

That's almost half what he's paid this year. This is a major pay cut to keep playing for Tampa smart move from Myers

In 2020 Myers looked really good then fell off. Honestly if he can play at that level or even 50% of that with Hedman this is fine

As Hedman can make anyone look good so I dont think they care much as Hedman probs gonna do 90% of the work anyways

Absolutely guaranteed “income tax” was uttered while negotiating this.

But good on TB. Myers was a promising kid a few years back, hopefully he can rebound.

Good deal, at worst, that’s a burriable deal and you only get around 300k on the cap, at best, he’s a solid 3rd pairing D

$1.4 million for a player who was a healthy scratch / AHL player most of last year? Why?

At best he plays on Hedmans wing. Rutta got himself a decent payday doing that well

You can bury it in the minors and Lightning management seems enamoured with him . He does fit the mold of Bolt blueluners big and physical.

Would prefer he'd have actually played some games for us first but it's too small of a cap hit for me to care beyond this comment

Even in the minors, he's got a $250,000 cap hit. It's not much, but given his track record so far, it more than the Lightning needed to pay.

Extremely minimal risk. If he plays like TB's management thinks he can it's a steal.

Not so much to "keep playing for playing for Tampa". but after being waived an not claimed last season, 1.4m might be the best offer he would have received.
But often playing on a good team with good players "ups" your game, so you're right, that could have his reason to stay with Tampa
