Devils don’t have the cap room

They also wouldn’t retain on a league minimum salary that’s just stupid

I'm under the impression that Bernier will go in LTIR. Am I incorrect on this?

As for the retention, how is it different than retaining on other contracts? The point is that the added 400k makes a difference for EDM; it's not strictly necessary, but it would be useful to have.

You’re right about Bernier on LTIR but then they’ll only have enough room for maybe 1 extra forward as a sub. And while the devils are getting a better player, retaining so little money is such a waste of a retention spot especially when there isn’t even a discount coming their way with retaining. They are much better off holding retention spot for the deadline for Severson, Tatar, Haula, Blackwood etc. so wasting that retention spot 400k makes 0 sense from the devils POV

I like that it's a bit more outside the box thinking than most posts on here however I do dislike the idea of moving jesse like this. Imo the d core is good but what makes them able to go on a deep run is forwards like Jesse and Hyman and nuge that have proven very strong defensive forwards able to play in the top six. Think this will result in creating a more vollendrable line up. Again I like the outside Box thinking not intending to crap all over it.

Fair point regarding the retention slot though do you really think they'll need all 3 for the deadline? Part of upgrading from Bastian to Jesse is to help them be competitive in the Metro and- maybe I'm baised- but I think their roster is good enough to push for a playoff spot!

As for the cap space, by my math, this move would leave them with ~700k and a full 23-man roster.

That's fair. I appreciate the feedback! My aim with this was to address the cap issue (they CAN run a 20-man roster, but I'd rather they not) while not only avoiding paying assets to move cap (Foegele or Barrie) but also gaining an asset. Rodrigues, Bastian, the 2nd, and saving the pick/prospect they'd have to spend on moving either of the others is worth more to me than Puljujarvi- which isn't a slight against Puljujarvi.

Well when it comes to Barrie I have a VERY different perspective than most and I believe should be on the untouchable list for at least this coming year reevaluate next offseason could see that going in a few different directions depending upon the this year. Foegele imo is the odd man in this situation assuming the organization believes Holloway could fill the role I personally really don't know if or what it would cost to move him. He is around that age see depth usefully forwards really find their game and doesn't cost an arm and a leg just enough salary to correct the issue currently have isn't a long term investment for team acquiring I'd be shocked if it costed more than a third rounder. If that's true certainly the direction I'd go in.
