Description
I do not care about a first round pick 3 years away

I do not care about years 4-7 of the Kadri contract

This team's window is now. We have some nice pieces who will be here for a long time (Barzal, Dobson, Sorokin, Pelech, Pulock etc.) but a majority of this core's window is now and will be off the books in a couple more years. Should have maximized this window at at all costs. To get as close to a Cup Final as we twice were without seriously improving the roster is a crime.

The majority of this core is Barzal, the top four d and Sorokin. Isles will need cheap young talent to compliment them. Lou made the right move not trading Bailey and a first to sign Kadri. U r 110% right.

Only a coward would make a desperation move that wouldn’t get this team a title. Sometimes the best transactions are the ones you don’t make. Lou has made mistakes as GM, but this isn’t one of them.

Kadri and Kessel for shedding Bailey isn't desperate. This roster can win a Cup

No. No it cannot. They still don’t have a top line winger and they r even older than they were before.

I honestly don't see the massive problem surrounding Bailey, I don't watch the isles a ton, but I'd rather take a 40+ point guy for 2 more years then a 7 year 7 mil 32 year old who's point production will more than likely drop off a ton. A cheap signing like Milano (if there's room for him I'm not entirely sure) and keeping bailey would be much better than Kadri in my opinion.

Isles fans have hated bailey with very little reason for a long time. His analytics suck in large part due to the fact he doesn’t shoot that often, and that’s the most important part of how they calculate play driving. Then he’s also a pass first winger on a team that never scores. It’s ridiculous at this point.

The teams window is not now. Kadri will be a 3C caliber forward now that he’s not on a superteam

This shouldn’t be a country club where guys like Kadri/kessel come to relax in their declining years. Isles needed Burakovsky/Fiala/Debrincat

Passers usually have better play driving metrics, the reason why Bailey has terrible analytics is because he sucks defensively and doesn’t spend much time in the offensive zone

My understanding is that shot attempts play a huge part in how play driving is calculated. I could be wrong tho. Or over simplifying it.

He’s a train wreck in transition defensively. Hopefully having better defenseman can fix most of that problem.

Kadri has a few good years left in him but when his game craters it'll be ugly. He'll be a 7 mil albatross. It'll be fun watching him drive Connor McDavid nuts the next few years though.

"I do not care about years 4-7 of the Kadri contract"
You make it sound like Lou didn't offer Kadri 7mx7 and he just picked Calgary over them at that dollar value.

"This team's window is now. We have some nice pieces who will be here for a long time (Barzal, Dobson, Sorokin, Pelech, Pulock etc.) but a majority of this core's window is now and will be off the books in a couple more years. Should have maximized this window at at all costs. To get as close to a Cup Final as we twice were without seriously improving the roster is a crime."

Those guys that you mentioned are going to be there for a long time are the core.

        1) Lou said the cost to move a contract was too high. So no, he couldn't offer Kadri $7x7 because there would have been no space for Dobson/Romanov that followed

        2) I said we have some nice pieces, but the rest of the core (Lee, Nelson, Palmieri, Beauvillier, Pageau, Mayfield etc) are like 1-3 years from being off the books. Then take into consideration the ages of the players I just mentioned. They need a kick in the ass now to try and get them over the hump before it's too late

So your issue was with him not dumping Bailey then, but your wording made it suggest that he didn't want to give Kadri term or something. As for the second, statement, if they win now with those guys, that's great, if not they just retool and move on with their prospects and new players. My point is that the whole point was that the guys you mentioned make up the the majority of the core and can be the core in itself, the whole squad isn't the core. That isn't to say that Lee, Nelson, Mayfield, and others aren't important players but they are replaceable. Also, if Bailey doesn't have to win with the Isles, neither does Palmieri.

These are DESPERATE moves Kessel is literally just Bailey but cheaper, Kadri signing would be bad in 2 years these are very bad moves for the future a better move would’ve been trade Bailey with a 2nd and Wilde and then sign Milano. Lines would be Milano- Barzal- Wahlstrom, Lee- Nelson- Beau, Bellows- Pageau- Palmieri, Parise- Cizikas- Clutterbuck

If Bailey cost a 2nd and Wilde he would have been moved. Kessel is 100x the shooter that Bailey will ever be. Even if point totals are close, Isles need to add goals to the lineup. Just a disappointing offseason from the Isles in terms of what Lou made seem like would happen
