thats a good point but it fitted the islanders need and he will be the partner for dobson which they really needed.

1) Dallas - should have their RFA deals done and with Khudobin on LTIR they have more space available. Need for a RHD, PP specialist, in a big market and a contender. Imagine Suter-Subban as the 3rd pair!
2) Columbus - some space under the cap still, their 3rd pair defense isn't solid and they need to buy time for Jiricek-Mateychuk to develop.
3) Buffalo - has a need at RHD, could use a veteran blueliner, and would be in same org as his brother.
4) Edmonton - if they can move Barrie then Subban would be a great investment as his replacement.


weirdly enough I could see Barrie being a fit in Dallas. But edmonton would most certainly have to take back a player and / or retain salary

I wasn't too high on Nikishin when we drafted him in the 3rd round back in 2020, but apparently he's improved a bit in the KHL. He's essentially a big heavy defenseman with a nice shot. He's set to play in the KHL for next season, so he can't play for the Canes yet. Considering his potential and our defense pipeline already, I could see him being a higher end bottom pair guy at best for the Hurricanes. This may have been talking about Nikishin playing on the top pair for his KHL club.

Yeah they need to settle the RFA's. If they get Robertson on $7m AAV and Oettinger at $5m AAV; then they would have about $2.3m to spend; not enough for Barrie but enough for a guy like Subban for sure.

I agree Barrie would fit in as a Klingberg clone on that team. Shoot maybe even trade Klingberg away from Anaheim with retention and get him at half the price.

Didn’t you hate the trade lol? Realistically, Romanov ends up as a good 2nd pair guy, maybe a #2/3 D

No, i said the isles overpaid a bit for what he is right now (#4 D) but he has the potential to develop into a #3. I also stated he’s the perfect D partner for Dobson. A defensive minded D with elite mobility who doesn’t hurt you offensively.

NRD (nhl rumors daily) podcast, he basically stated that Chris Drury doesn’t care about the rangers future , he knows he needs to win in the next 2 years or else he’ll be fired. That adds up with the albatross Trochek contract.

He's like, a slightly better Victor Mete, with hits.

You’re wrong, he was great defensively last season. He is very good at defending the rush and zone entry denials
