I think the Miller trade is around fair. I’d hate to lose Schenn. I also doubt the leafs scratch Gio

This.

Good job overall! I think Miller + Schenn both fill serious needs for the Leafs. This package also really helps Vancouver longterm.

I really like Niemela. I’d push to have a 2023 first but if it can’t happen then it’s fine

Seeing Jets decline is kinda funny, no FA wants to sign there.
You’d get a useful player that would absolutely help out and if the team is crap, you have a trade chip you could get something for a the TDL.

A pick doesn’t make sense but a B level prospect certainly does

Really hard to see a scenario where Gio or Sandin aren't scratched unless one of them can play the right side. I remember Dubas saying he still wants to add a physical RHD so between Brodie, Lily and whoever that is, one of Sandin or Gio will be in the pressbox

Which in your AGM you added Schenn as that player (I target Schenn often for the same reason. I go after Miller a lot also).

I see Muzzin being the potential scratch in this scenario. OR one of Gio, Muzzin, Sandin swaps right and Schenn gets scratched. Either way I think the Leafs will alternate through the 7 D. Rielly, Brodie being stable and the other 5 rotating.

Not commenting on the value of the trades, but Toronto has a ton of skill. The missing ingredients are not skill, but sandpaper mixed with skill in the top 6. Another guy to dig picks out of the corners and stand in front of the net.

Just one man's opinion. I am a Habs fan but I would like to see any Canadian team win the cup.

Could definitely see this happening, Gio likely being the guy to scratch next season. I think if Muzzin is healthy, hes a top 4 lock with rotating partners until theres a good fit (I really like him and Brodie). If anyone gets injured, makes life a lot less complicated

JT Miller is a really gritty guy, thats the role he has always played but managed to tear it up last season on the stat sheet. Miller and Schenn are both physical guys with heart

Well for starters I'm sure they could get a 1st that isn't two drafts away

They aren't a cup contenders. At least most of us do not think so. The incentive is to trade their highly valuable UFA for some very nice futures.

Niemela is a very nice rd prospect + 1st round pick are the big pieces. Anderson is a lower end prospect who is NHL ready now (not huge value). 3rd and Schenn cancel each other out. Holl is a replacement player for Schenn and can be resold at the dead line if needed.

It's not an insane package for Miller but it is more than reasonable. I can see a world were another team beats this package though.

I like niemela, but him and a 1st 2 years from now aren’t enough to justify trading away Vans best player. The other three pieces are worth basically nothing combined.

This trade only make sense if it’s the TDL and there are no other offers on the table and miller refuses to re-sign. Even then, I’d probably structure the deal quite a bit differentyl

If this is the best offer Vancouver gets this offseason they should just hold on to JT Miller until the deadline and see what kind of bidding war they can get going.

I think Schenn gets back Holl & the 3rd in this deal (Holl is a lesser player and a higher cap hit, so the 3rd covers that value discrepancy) which makes the deal JT Miller with full retention for Topi Niemela, a 2024 1st, and Joey Anderson. Anderson is a non-prospect, really can't get excited about him as an asset here, so we're down to Niemela & a 2024 1st for JT Miller with full retention. I think that gets beat by another team offering a 1st, a strong prospect, and one more piece - something as simple as changing the 1st to a 2023 and adding in a 2nd/3rd rounder would beat this deal by a ton.

Niemala and a 2023 first round pick would be a good start for any Miller trade
