I don't understand in what universe Kerfoot has a negative value. 3.5 million for a 50 point player who can play centre, fast, AND the penalty kill. Anybody who thinks that's negative needs to actually watch him play.

I think teams are realizing that the teams over the cap have very limited options. Kerfoot is a solid player but he’s not exactly a guy teams can’t live without so why pay for him for zero reason?

Also I’d add kerfoot is one of this weird players: not quite a guy you want in a top six, but game isn’t exactly what I’d want for a third line players. He’s one of this players that would be a great top six player on a non playoff team.

I mean, to each their own, but if I was the team icing a lineup where 3 of my top 6 Dmen are over 30, I'd want to make sure I had the cap space to easily give these guys a night off when they need it. I know it helps having your AHL team in the same city (so basically an entire taxi squad ready at a moment's notice) but you're going to be doing a lot of painful juggling to make things work if you don't run a roster with room for at least 21-22 guys.
