Last year, almost everyone had the Jets in the playoffs, and many had them going deep. This is mostly the same roster, except with a full time coach, which they didn't have last season. There's no reason they shouldn't bounce back. And they also don't need to rebuild. Calgary missed the playoffs for one year, then bounced back and won the division last year. Even Tampa missed the playoffs once and later won multiple Cups with the same core.

As for the rumors of toxicity and poor culture, to me those are just rumors. We're not in the locker room, so we wouldn't know. And from what I've observed, the players seem to like battling for each other, which is a good thing.

The Jets still need another forward upgrade to compete in the playoffs, so why not go for the biggest name available on the market? This should be more than enough for Kane, but if Chicago wants more, they'll have to get it someplace else. Love Heinola but he's not getting an opportunity here and it would be best for his development to move him if he can't get into the lineup full time.

I say give this team another chance, and if they can't do it, next offseason is the time to tear it down, when we can move any or all of Scheifele, Hellebuyck, Wheeler, and Dubois as rentals.
