yes, but not anytime soon. Never say never I guess but I don't think you can trade him. Regardless of if anyone would be interested in taking him (which they shouldn't be) he's got the protection and seems like he only wanted to go to Vancouver or Boston when he first got traded. Now Boston is more than set in that department as many have pointed out, and they're smart enough to steer clear anyway. Vancouver's next best option is probably a buyout. OEL was overpayed but serviceable last year. This year is the last year he had a signing bonus due and the salary begins to decrease every year afterward, so a buyout becomes easier with each passing year. They could use the cap space now, but that could be a similarly shortsighted move. I think if I was Alvin/JR I ride it out as long as it sort of makes sense but I'd be penciling in a buyout in 2024 probably, hoping he stays a roughly $5 million defenseman longer than that.
