A legitimately terrific signing from Lou Lamoriello?

I'll expand on my reply to your previous similar post, lou has made a ton of good signings with the isles, the pulock deal was a legitimate steal, You may not like the guy but it is silly to try to say its surprising that he made a good signing. Just look at what that d core is locked up for.

At least he wasn't traded for a 2nd round pick.

Lamoriello often does well with RFA's, as long as they're not ol school hockey boys (thinks tough, "character" players). Those he over pays. He plays intense hard ball with others. For example Marner's camp was still pissed when he was resigned as a Leaf, for Lamoriello's refusal to give him some of the bonuses eligible on an ELC

For sure the Pelech and Pulock deals were absolute steals, Lamoriello has what to point at in terms of good signings, especially when it comes to defensemen. I'm more poking fun at his affinity for giving weak bottom-6 forwards (especially 4th line grinders such as Cizikas, Martin, Clutterbuck and Johnston) long-term contracts which (when combined) eat up much-needed cap space down the road (and yes, that's obviously not relevant when it comes to Dobson).

The Dobson deal is a top 10 contract value now...going to be fantastic for the next 3 years.

Would think that kid would have bet more on himself. He might regret that 3rd year.

Not a bad contract but it's inline with the going rate (18-20 min TOI/game) for a second line D and he's only played one season averaging 18min/game. Haven't followed Dobson closely, is he really in line with Sergachev or McAvoy?

The problem with most bridge deals is that when they expire, the player can go to arbitration and force the team into a short-term contract that takes him to unrestricted free agency in the minimum number of years. However, according to Cap Friendly, Dobson still won’t have arbitration rights when he comes out of this contract, so the team will have a fair amount of leverage on the next negotiation. In my opinion, that’s the way bridge deals should work. With arbitration eligibility the player has too much leverage, which is why I think we’re seeing more teams sign young players long term. They want to avoid that arbitration stage and get the player committed for a few years beyond the UFA minimum. There’ll still be a chance to do that with Dobson on his next contract, so this is the ideal bridge deal.

I assume the 3 people saying it's not a good signing are Mr. & Mrs. Dobson, and perhaps his agent? Not sure though.
