Hanifin is an interesting one for the Flames.

They'll keep him for this year. But in the offseason, with 1yr left is fascinating. I don't know if the Flames will like what it costs to keep him around.

"Championship quality depth on the blueline for years to come." Really? Hanifan is a UFA in two seasons.

The Flames are in win now mode, there is no way they accept this.

Siegenthaler is a legit 1LD and we have Bahl, Okhotiuk, Muk, and some others competing for 3LD, we don't need Hanifin.

I like it for CGY— feels like a summer 2023 trade to me. Give the money to Weegar, and they still have a good defensive core.

Weegar - Andersson
Kylington - Tanev
Valimaki - Zadorov

And then Mukhmadullin comes up the following year.

Not sure NJD needs to do this though.

Siegenthaler, Hughes will be fine as 1LD and 2LD.

Siegenthaler ---- Hamilton
Graves->Hughes ---- Severson->Nemec
Okhotiuk/Bahl ---- Walsh/Mukhamadullin

(Edwards, Casey, Vilen, etc)

We'll take a goalie though...

I love Siegs, but I feel a 1LD should be able to play both sides of the ice. I do agree Siegs is a top shutdown guy, but even with all that, this is all noise and a trade neither team should do.

When he's not dreaming of beating Cale Makar, Q is dreaming of being a #1D

Before last year, Hamilton was a 70-75% Even Strength defense, he completely fell off this last year. Quinn is not really an all around top guy. He's very good, just as Siegs is very good, but Siegenthaler's chart isn't like the other two, being why he's getting paid what he's getting paid. Should a #1 LHD be getting $3.4m for five years in his prime?

It's funny because he's elite and in 6 years he'll be the third or fourth best defenseman on the Devils

Yes. Defense doesn't earn money. See Devon Toews.

When Toews signed that deal, he had only two NHL seasons under his belt at the age of 26. He was a late bloomer. He got paid BEFORE he blew up. He was very good, but he still brings more on both sides of the ice.

I'm VERY happy with the Siegenthaler contract. I love the guy. I'm fine putting him as our #1 for now, but that is ahead of Graves and....Brendan Smith? Would I say he is a true #1LHD? No. But he is the best we have.

I would happily pay him over 6M long term. Only way I see him moved is if he won't stay in Canada

If the number is a 6, you definitely sign that any day. He can hit UFA at age 27 so I think the number could be quite big.
