Description
The Habs trade Price contract to a rebuild team, and the team byout his contract in 2023 because he decided to come back in the NHL.

After, he sign a 1 year deal with the Canucks or the Kraken for the 2023-24 season.

After, he return to Montreal for a 1 year deal.

I just want to know if it's legal in the collective convention ?

So, if you're saying he comes back in 2024, that is fair

He won't retire and willingly give up $31,250,000 in salary.
No team will accept his contract and buy him out with a dead cap hit of 10m this year and 9m the next 3 after that.

You're stuck with Carey Price and handcuffed to his albatross contract for the next 4 years.

Carey Price is finished.

He's already out for the entire 2022/2023 NHL season.

No sane GM is eating 8 years of Carey Price, If he's never going to play again. So a buyout option isn't on the table period.

Just LITR him for the next 4 years or so and be done with it.

Did you know the Habs can give some picks to move him ?

like two first round picks and more ?

The Habs did something like that with the Weber contract.

And I just want to know if it's legal.

Sure, In theory they can absolutely move him to a team needing LTIR cap relief. However that team will use his contract as cap relief and not buy him out so that he can re-sign with montreal after 1 year.

But comparing him to Weber doesn't make sense as the remainder of Webers contract pays him 3 million, 1 million, 1 million, and 1 million over the next 4 years. So VGK only have to pay out 6 million in salary for that cap relief.
Prices contract pays him 7.75 million, 8.5 million, 7.5 million and 7.5 million over the next 4 years. No NHL owner will willing open up their pocket books and pay price 31.25 million just for some cap relief.

Whether or not it's legal is a moot point. This will never happen. You're stuck with Carey Price and handcuffed to his albatross contract for the next 4 years.

Personally if something like that happens, that can be a homerun (of course, if he is healthy).

Also, were not really stock with the contract, he will be on LTIR.

It's mainly just an issue for Geoff Molson who'd have to pay him 31 million over the next 4 years to sit at home. No other owner wants that.

Price goes on LTIR and insurance pays his salary,Montreal free up 10 million cap space .So no skin off the Montreal Canadiens club . We just before each season put him on LTIR until his contract is completed. I still think jake Allen will be traded and we pick up a goaltender or let the youth prove themselves.

Yep, this is the only realistic option for Price. He's likely never playing again.
