Description

A lot of talk about Hughes being done and not being able to do more until the season starts.
I don't believe this, even with the flexibility of Price starting on LTIR we already had a logjam on the wings, and now we have a logjam at C. Add to that we need a legit RD who fits into our long term plans.

If no moves are done, the habs could potentially have anywhere between 10M and 15M tied up for fourth line roles. WAY Too MUCH!!!

I've even moved our young guns Slavs and Guhle to the minors and the logjams are everywhere.

Something needs to happen and here's what I came up with.

Going to have to massively overpay to pry Dobson? Probably 2 1sts, 1 second, and 1 3rd, but to a team that believes they are a contender coming off a off year, so going to need to be rather shiny to buy dobson.

Islanders don't even consider that trade.

A log jam isn't a bad thing for the Habs, I would rather see the youth stay in Laval and be part of a good team for a year, have Hughes retain money on the up coming UFAs and sell off at the deadline. Next off season will be a ton of cap space Hughes can use to get even more assets.

MTL laden with vets thaT ARENT part of rebuild taking icetime from youth.

But you are right, MTL has to do something NOW, because you cant exceed salary cap by more than 10% and theres no LTIR until preseason

Thanks for that, but I didnt think MTL hasnt officially done anything yet. Other than a comment from the GM, Price is still not retired or LTIR'd officially, is he?

Monahan is still listed as LTIR but he is expecting to make a return which is what Calgary couldn't afford

Dobson won't be traded they have no reason to trade him. If you even want it to be consider it has to be a massive overpay.

A cap dump, a middle-6 center they don't need, your 4th-best LD prospect, and a presumably late 1st *might* get you a Scott Mayfield package.

Any offer for Dobson that doesn't include Caufield, though? Not anywhere in the realm of possibility.

The easiest way to solve the roster crunch and play the young guys is to just bury guys like Pitlick, Armia, Evans in the minors, hope they get claimed off waivers, or buy them out. Monahan will be out on LTIR until at least christmas anyways, so there is plenty of room for a big roster or big buried cap hits. Otherwise, you would have to retain on expiring deals like Drouin or Dadonov or move Anderson who is somehow a hot commodity among NHL GMs.
