I don't think you need to give up a 1st round pick for Gus Nyquist. Word was that Columbus was trying to dump him instead of Bjorkstrand last month, but there weren't any takers for him without CBJ throwing in a sweetener.

Getting him at 3M is a good rental deal. Basically Dube, Valimaki, and a 3rd are for Goose at 3M. The 1st and Emilo arefor Cuelemans

If it's at the deadline, I don't think they'll need retained salary. Cap hits should be pro-rated enough to where he'll fit without retention.

Also, reports are that Monahan's sweetener to Montreal is their 1st round pick.

Really? Because he’s coming off a 53 point season and Dube at 200 NHL games has a career high of 32 points. Nyquist is a “middle six” (I hate that term) winger now. Dube is also one and has a much longer shelf life, but we are trying to win a cup this season and Nyquist helps out more.

Thats way way too much for Nyquist.

Nyquist played 1st line minutes and 1st unit powerplay time last year. Dube played 3rd line minutes and 2nd u it powerplay time. Raw point totals don’t tell the whole story. Dube and Nyquist had similar 5v5 points per 60 last year, but dube scored more goals, drove ply better, and was much less of a liability defensively. Flames lose this trade.

Nyquist is also one of the worst defensive players in the league. Like worse than Laine bad.
