Quoting: Elmo
I don't think this will set the Ducks back massively. They have Dostal, who, unless I'm incorrect, could replace Gibson as the next starter within a couple years, and they need forward prospect depth. Nyman and Lind should become middle six wings, and the 2023 first is big, as you mentioned, as well as a 2nd.
I could be wrong, but it seems like for the purposes of the rebuild, Gibson is expendable and can be used to Anaheim's advantage to address a need.
Where are you getting that we need forward prospect depth? We're rated to have one of the top 3 prospect pools in the league. If our prospect roster looks depleted, its because half our forwards are under 24 years old, and we have already called up our two star players to play in the bigs.
Neither Gibson or Lundestrom are on the block. I'm sure Verbeek is listening to offers for all his players, but short of a home run trade, he has no reason to move Gibson, or anyone else who is a part of the rebuild. If we were going to trade Gibson, he wouldn't be traded anywhere in the Pacific, let alone the western conference.
People on the trade block at the deadline this year are Klingberg, Shattenkirk, Stolarz, Grant, and maybe Comtois depending on the year he has.
Also Silfverberg will not be on IR, he is back this season.
