Description
I know it's a lot for Gibson, but how often is a starting goalie available for 5 years?
I think Seattle wants to make the playoffs, and they need a reliable starter to do that.

Even if deadline sellers, why make a deal with the kraken, they arent about to be buyers.

We just signed Vatrano, so unless he's a disaster or wants out, the first trade is impossible.

An unprotected first in the 2023 draft is certainly a nice piece, but the rest of that package is just window-dressing. If offered, I hope Verbeek declines. We're on the same upward arc as Seattle.

You think so? They're supposedly shopping Gibson, and I haven't seen an offer better than a 1st and the equivalent of 3 2nds.

They just got Bjorkstrand and Burakovsky. Seem like buying moves to me.

Driedger is out for the year, So he's not getting moved.

If Anaheim is out then John Klingberg would be one to get moved as well.

Why do they trade Vatrano after just 5 months? Seattle wouldn't get past the first round anyways and aren't in win-now mode. They shouldn't acquire Gibson now. Klingberg is the most likely to be moved. Maybe Shattenkirk and Stolarz too.

To be slightly more competitive but it's still not a playoff team or a legit threat in the playoffs.

Their pick in the draft is probably ~8-12 this year, with Bjorkstrand (a cap dump) and Burakovsky out of free agency, they arent making huge splashes and giving up on building their prospect pool. In an absolutely stacked draft class where players that will be going in the early teens could have been top 5 this year, it does not at all make sense for them to be giving up on that.

I don't think this will set the Ducks back massively. They have Dostal, who, unless I'm incorrect, could replace Gibson as the next starter within a couple years, and they need forward prospect depth. Nyman and Lind should become middle six wings, and the 2023 first is big, as you mentioned, as well as a 2nd.

I could be wrong, but it seems like for the purposes of the rebuild, Gibson is expendable and can be used to Anaheim's advantage to address a need.

I didn't realize Driedger was out the whole year. You can sub him for Jones. I'm extending Klingberg in this, I think the Ducks could use him on the back end when they likely push harder for the playoffs next year.

Yeah Chris Driedger tore his ACL in late May, And it's usually a 12 month long healing process for Goalies. Makes sense to try and resign Klingberg if you can get him for the right price.

I think the Vatrano/Kravtsov trade makes sense for both teams. Rangers need bottom six wingers, and Kravtsov obviously wants and needs a change of scenery. He would fit Anaheim's timeline better than Vatrano, and has higher upside.

I didn't say I think Seattle will make the playoffs, but they're already deep at forward and wouldn't be too far away if they decided to make a push, which I'm predicting here that they do.

Vatrano has term which isn't something NYR can entertain. Too many young players to resign next year, Miller, Laffy, Chytil mm.

Vatrano alone is worth much more than Kratsov, who at most is worth a 5th at this point. He hasnt proven anything in North America

They arent shopping Gibson, those reports werent true, they were listening to offers for him not shopping him, and Gibson said he wants to be a career Duck

People on CF undervalue Gibson more than almost anyone in the league, as of last season he was still ranked a top 10 goalie in the league by execs/players and such

I see Anaheim dealing Klingberg & Shattenkirk along with possibly Stolarz depending on the return not Gibson Lundeström and Vatrano

Vatrano just signed in Anaheim. Seattle has depth but lacks high-end players. They would just lose in the first round if they made the playoffs.

Where do you see three seconds? Lind, Nyman and Driedger aren't collectively one second. Lind has had chances with two teams, failed to impress with either, and isn't close to where Max Comtois (taken after him in the second round in 2017) is, even after Max had a bad injury-wrecked last season. Nyman is nothing special, Driedger wasn't doing well even before his season-ending injury, and a third and a fifth added to that melange (including Lind) doesn't add up to three seconds; in fact, that stew barely rises to the level of "throw-ins" for any trade.

Yes, Gibson is expendable -- for Seattle's unprotected 2023 first (which the Kraken won't offer) and Oliver Bjorkstrand.

Where are you getting that we need forward prospect depth? We're rated to have one of the top 3 prospect pools in the league. If our prospect roster looks depleted, its because half our forwards are under 24 years old, and we have already called up our two star players to play in the bigs.

Neither Gibson or Lundestrom are on the block. I'm sure Verbeek is listening to offers for all his players, but short of a home run trade, he has no reason to move Gibson, or anyone else who is a part of the rebuild. If we were going to trade Gibson, he wouldn't be traded anywhere in the Pacific, let alone the western conference.

People on the trade block at the deadline this year are Klingberg, Shattenkirk, Stolarz, Grant, and maybe Comtois depending on the year he has.

Also Silfverberg will not be on IR, he is back this season.

2023 2nd: Obviously worth a second
Nyman, 2022 2nd rounder: Obviously worth a second
Lind, former 2nd rounder: We can debate how much his value has dropped since being drafted, but he still has upside and has put up good AHL numbers. Even if he isn't worth a second anymore, a 3rd, 5th, and serviceable backup (It can be Jones instead of Driedger) should make up for that.

Nonsense. Nyman was a startling stretch at #49. None of the 5 mock drafts I referred to had him going in the second round, and here are some of the guys drafted after him that were and still are regarded as better prospects: Jack Hughes at #51, Tristan Luneau at #53, Elias Salomonsson at #55 and Lane Hutson at #62. In fact, Seattle's own third pick in the second round (#61, David Goyette) was and still is regarded as a better prospect. If you think that anyone but Seattle thinks Nyman is worth a second-round pick now, I think that you're mistaken.

Kole Lind, a third and a fifth doesn't get you a second-round draft pick. Jeremy Bracco put up GREAT numbers in the AHL, as did Martin Frk. Except for the still-unsigned players from the second round of the 2017 draft, it's hard to find more than two or three who've had a less distinguished career so far than Lind.

Lind had a better point/game in the NHL last year than Comtois did.
