I think most of those trades are fair, but I don't think you're getting a 1st for Varly.

At first glance, Montreal and Vancouver probably pass.

Not the worst value because the Montreal 2nd should be very early, but I feel like the Canucks can do better, especially considering they went young impact players and not just picks

While Vegas is a team with limited leverage, so are the Islanders who are trying to desperately free up space for a big move. I think a 2nd or 3rd is fine. His cap hit is also not great, so if they want a 1st from a team then they need to retain 50%. Not sure that still makes it happen.

My two arguments are:
1) Vegas is going to LTIR lehners $5m, so why does it matter if Vegas takes the full $5m or $2.5m? It’s a one year deal anyways.

2) trading varly to Vegas would simply be to get the 1st rounder to then flip to Vancouver for Miller. This isn’t for cap dump. The cap dump would be beauvilier to Montreal. We only take Jake allen back in that trade if Vegas agrees to give isles the first for varly…

2) It is a cap dump because they need that space open, in addition to Beauvilier, to make the proceeding moves they will try to add.

1) Because space matters. Just because $5M opens up doesn't mean they want or need to use it all up on one player. Cap space is always essential to any contending team, so yes, it makes a difference.

Varly just isn’t worth a first. It’s that simple. This is the deepest draft in a decade. Stone has a bad back. If Eichel were to go down this team could be in the bottom half of the league very quickly. Just because you want a first doesn’t mean it makes sense whatsoever
