You kinda have to look ahead. This is no different. A guy could be worth more or less, but with Dvorak I think the key is that he'll most likely be movable.

As per your request i will yell at you here. Next summer mackinnon will become the leagues highest paid player. Even if you want to predict a discount which is not very predictable youre looking at minimum 8×12. Truth be told barring a big injury i dont see any way he takes less than that.

It's all media nonsense. MacKinnon is a great player, but he's not a 12M plus player. Fair value is probably more around 11 to 11.5.

Further, when Landeskog does 7M and Makar does 9M, it follows that MacKinnon also signs for a reasonable figure. He even said he would a year and a half ago.

Landy took a hometown discount its true but they arent comparable at all in terms of talent. Makar took 9m but he was an rfa and it only bought 1 ufa year. Do you think on his next contract makar is going to take a number equivalent with 9m last year or is he going to try and reset the d market with a massive contract?

The point is that both Landy and Makar "took less because they want to win with this group" with the quotes here being what MacKinnon said in interviews a year and a half ago. The media noise now is that he wants to be the highest paid player in the league. It comes from Adrian Dater, who used to be a pretty credible beat writer for the team but has since had a pretty nasty fall from grace.

To me, MacKinnon best comp is Barkov. Nate deserves more, but not that much, especially if he follows through on the discount.
