Yes i don't think any of the other teams accept, even if they did yes we are better.. but still not a contender and were are again cash strapped and lose more draft capitol, sharks need to be looking long term not short term.

All those trades are quite lopsided.

You look at the returns of some of the recent trades, Byorkstrand for only a 3rd & 4th, Burns with a significant amount retained for a 3rd, a fringe NHLer and an average goalie prospect, Patches for nothing, and the trades are pretty fair and relevant for the opposing team.

Konecny is maybe only marginally better than Byorkstrand since he's a little younger (though I'd argue they're about the same), and so a 2nd + Ozzy + Reimer (who's said to be worth a 2nd by the Sharks) makes that make sense. The Flyers get their prospect and 2nd rounder, and even though they're rebuilding, they need Reimer since Hart is a major question mark and their current backup is likely staying in Russia at least for the season with court issues.

Coyotes are rumored to be looking for an unprotected 1st and a 2nd rounder for Chychrun. Reedy's a nice average prospect and Labanc is a bounce-back middle-six RW for them to stay above the cap floor, and they too need a backup goalie. You can take Simek out and stash him in the Cuda, Sharks have space in this scenario to be able to do that if the Kane situation resolves itself.

Devils deal is one that lots of NJ have agreed to on this site. Holtz's value isn't what it was, and Severson is pretty superfluous now for them. It's a fair trade for both sides.

Byorkstrand only netted back a 3rd and 4th and Konecny's only has marginally more value than him. Here PHI's getting a 2nd, Reimer, and a 1st-round pick prospect currently valued at a 2nd/3rd.

Fedotov's not coming back to the US this season, and on top of that, Hart's extremely questionable. Even though PHI's tanking, they need a solid cheap short-term goalie. Reimer's a perfect fit.

Bjorkstrand only got a 3rd and a 4th because CBJ was on the wrong side of the cap team and forced them to sell really low on him.

Idk what Devils fans agreed to that trade but I definitely would not touch that

I think this is all very incorrect.

A couple short-sighted Devils fans may have agreed this trade, but anyone capable of passing a marshmallow-test would reject this in an instant.

Oh no, our 1st rd pick scoring at a PPG pace in the minors hasn't made the NHL yet two seasons out from his draft! What a bum Holtz must be!

And Severson is certainly not surplus to requirements for the Devils, he will bridge the gap perfectly until Nemec is ready for the NHL full-time.
Severson can be kept for the year making the Devils one of the strongest RHD teams in the league for the season.
Severon can be used in a swap for a cost controlled asset like Garland or Puljujärvi.
Or traded for a pure futures deal if the Devils are out of the playoff race at TDL.

Besides, have you seen how little high end wingers are going for lately?
With Meier's 10m QO, I cannot see him fetching a much bigger return than what Fiala and DeBrincat got.

1. If you are using Patches and Bjorkstrand deals as comps, shouldn’t it be Devils sending a late pick or two for Meier?

2. Don’t use those guys as comps. Use Fiala, Buchnevich and Reinhart.

3. Holtz value has only gone up in the last year. He was a point-per-game player in his age-19 season in AHL…something that has only been accomplished by a handful of players (Rantanen, Burgeron, Elias, etc). Furthermore, he has 3 years remaining in his ELC.

4. Severson has a ton of value, especially at deadline. We aren’t just giving him away as a door prize.

5. This trade is not fair.

6. Until Meier signs an extension, he is a strict rental, as no team is offering him that qualifying offer. If Devils are selling Severson, they are out of playoffs and would not be buying rentals. If they are buying Meier, they are in playoff hunt and wouldn’t be selling Severson.

100% buyers market for wings (like almost every other year).

I cannot see Meier getting more than 17-48 pick and prospect like Foote, Zetterlund, Bahl, Walsh.

That's rather... arbitrary. #17 overall draft pick works but #16 overall is where you suddenly draw the line to nix a deal for a player like Meier? That's really not how NHL deals work.

Its shorthand for 2nd round pick that converts to 1st rounder if a team makes the playoffs.

It is how NHL deals are made.
