they signed vatrano and klingberg, thats not moves u make when u arent trying to compete
Vatrano is depth scoring, Klingberg filled a hole at RD and got us over the cap floor, and is going to be flipped at the TDL unless we REALLY like him and he is willing to sign a reasonable contract. We Taylor Hall'd him.
So yes,
@LosPatos is right, we don't need, nor particularly want, Sandin. We have Zellwegger and Mintyukov in the pipeline for offensive D, we have Benoit and Vaakainen for defensive D, and we still have Cam Fowler for 4 more seasons. We wouldn't pair Sandin with Drysdale, he needs a defensive focused partner. If Sandin was a RHD, we might consider this offer.
However, we are light at left wing, so why would we trade away a guy from our weakest depth chart position and acquire one too add to the deepest position we have? That makes zero sense for us.
We are not going to compete this year, if we somehow make the playoffs due to the pacific division being 10 ply, we get bounced in the first round in 5 games or less. Anyone who thinks the Ducks picked up Klingberg to go on a run this season is playing checkers while Verbeek is playing 3D chess.
Anaheim is a small market team, we don't have the luxury of being able to tank for multiple seasons like Toronto has in the past and still have enough money to survive the loss in ticket sales. We have to rebuild on the fly and keep the product on the ice entertaining even when we are doing poorly, or the team has a serious chance at bankruptcy.
