That’s a lot to pay for Knight

Now the goaltending needs a little work.

Lyon isn't a nearly good enough backup to help Florida with Bob's inconsistencies. Bob could be anywhere from a .900 goaltender to a Vezina winner next season and there's no way of knowing until it starts.

Knight's extension could be a problem, but that's next year's problem.

Indeed...while I have taken my stabs at Knight for Devils...this was really about finding dmen for Florida.

Devils decline. Too much to pay (take out Zetterlund) and the Hornqvist dump puts them over the cap.

Lyon is pretty good for #3. Give him 15 starts, he'll be fine.

Florida needs a dman or two (they have given away 17 in last few years and now have little remaining on blueline).

These are a couple dman that may be available before season to reinforce their D.

Adding Blackwood to the trade could solve that (and adjusting the value off of that)

Blackwood at 50% $1.4m
Severson at 50% $2.083m

Hornqvist $5.3m
Knight $0.9m

Adds about $3m to NJD payroll...would just have to move Johnsson or LTIR Wood.

The Johnsson move is an inevitability imo. I would try to stay under the ceiling just in case Bernier comes back, we don't want to have to move assets to deal with that.

I'd say their blueline needs more than just a little work.

If Maurice hires Huddy, then God help you.

Just imagine if Ekblad goes down again.

Honestly I think they might be headed for a regression and it won't all be due to Maurice.
