Description
trying to be realistic with a kerfoot / holl trades

seen some versions of both of these trades in other AGMs, just tweaked them a bit

can allow the Leafs to carry a full 21 man roster, and can sign Knies after his college season ends.

Détails additionnels:
Leafs can get an asset in a few years for a solid middle 6 player, while getting cap compliant.
MIN
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Détails additionnels:
wild are rumored to be looking for another fwd, and kerf can fit in their top 6/9, who is good defensively, good pker. i don't think he can fully fill in for the production that they lost in fiala, but he's a fine replacement, who had a 50 pts last yr. He can help them compete in the central div, with the likes of NSH, STL, COL.

TOR
  1. Bjork, Anders (800 000 $ retained)
  2. Choix de 6e ronde en 2024 (BUF)
Détails additionnels:
Saw a trade similar to this in a diff AGM, and it would make sense for both teams. leafs get Bjork, who could use a change of scenery to help get his career back on track, and playing with the likes of Matthews, Marner, Nylander, etc, would help out. by moving out holl's 2m, tor can bring back sandin for around that same price.
BUF
  1. Holl, Justin
Détails additionnels:
sabres get a rhd who can have a bigger role, and show if he's worth a bigger contract in the offszn. If the sabres arent in the mix around the TDL, holl could fetch a 4th or even a 3rd in return from a buyer who wants a run at a cup. Hes not as bad as some tor fans say he is, but moving holl to sign sandin is the right move.

Buffalo would be nuts to accept this because a team only gets 3 retention slots and they should not use 1/3 on this

A 6th has little value, Bjork will be the 14th forward next year and Buffalo needs RHD, let's make the deal.

Other than Okposo who will the Sabres be trading and with holding salary?

I think you want the spots so you can facilitate a trade, maybe as a third team at the deadline. That might be a pipe dream though, it would have to be a contract that is ending at seasons end, and it would still have to be at least a 2nd round pick or it isn't worth it. Also, I hate to say it, but olofsson could be moved at the deadline if a first is coming back, and they might consider retaining (although he's under contract for next year, which adds a bonus year of retention, which makes it not a great idea).

This is crazy time right now.
Look what Vegas had to do.
Gave away Pacioretty with Coghlan as a sweetener and took on Shea Weber LTIR contract just to move Evgeni Dadonov so the cap could be reduced by $5,000,000.
That is a lot of talent to move to get nothing in return.

I hope Pegula will open up his moth laden wallet and allow Karmanos to make deals to take on cap, because you are correct.
While no playoff team wanted to give up assets for Pacioretty at $7,000,000 for a full season at the TDL many teams would have given up more than a first for a pt/gm LW at $3,500,000 which would have added less than $1,000,000 to their cap.

There will be many teams giving up assets when opening day rolls around and they need to get below the cap, I hope the Sabres can take advantage.
BTW at the TDL Holl would probably fetch a decent return at 50% retention as well, so maybe you and @BCAPP are correct to not retain before the season starts.

Who of Dahlin, Jokiharju or Lybushkin does Holl push out?

Who of Dahlin, Jokiharju or Lybushkin does Holl push out?
None of them.
I guess you have not read the numerous times I have said, "ALL FOUR CUP FINALISTS HAD 3 LHD AND 3 RHD."
So Buffalo who has missed the playoffs for the past decade, knows more about making a hockey team the all four of the cup finalists.
Maybe that is one reason the Sabres have failed miserably.
Smart teams know it is important to have one of each on the ice as much as possible.
Rutta and Bogosian, two of Tampa's RHD, they were waived by Chicago and Buffalo respectively.
How bad do you have to be to be waived by those two teams?
Yet they played for the Tampa Bay Lightening who were going for their third straight cup.
Do you think they know something about the importance of having RHD?
Strong fore checking teams can take advantage of the defenseman who playing his weak hand as that defenseman has to back hand the puck to clear the zone.

Do you remember how easy it was for Tuch to take the puck away from Eichel when the two teams played here.
Jack was on his backhand with limited options.
Tuch came flying in shortened the time had Jack to make a play and Tuch was off to the races and scored a goal.

So Holl pushes Bryson out of the line up.
You can make what ever pairings you want, but the defense is stronger with Dahlin, Power and Samuelsson on the left side and Holl, Lyubushkin and Jokiharju on the right side.

Just a fun fact:
Eight of the top 11 paid NHL defensemen are right handed, they are a rare commodity.

Let other teams pay them to retain on bigger trades. You only get three shots, is it worth it for this small return to use one?

I think limiting teams to only 3 retention slots was an in unintendedly over tight rule. It makes each spot really important

One last thought.
Bjork would be the Sabres 13th or 14th forward next year.
Holl played over 20 min/gm and only Muzzin spent more TOI PK.
RHD who play 20 min per night are a premium, 14th forwards are waiver claims.
Retaining $800,000 of Bjork's salary and adding only a sixth IMO would be a great move for Buffalo, if the Leafs wanted to trade him for this return, Buffalo should accept.

There's games where I like jokiharju and games where i don't. I'm not sure why some fans wanna write his name in blood in the starting lineup. I agree that if the price is right, holl would be fine to throw into the mix.
