Win now cap move

Explications
Trade Bean and Foudy before the season starts. Anaheim could really use both of them, especially Bean for the second pair to play with Drysdale. With Zegras and Terry looking good, they are probably looking to get better and start trying to win.

After that move, the Jackets are set up nice cap wise for next summer, or to add someone at the deadline (like JT Miller) if the team is playing well and looks like they need center help at the top of the lineup. I think if he played half a season with 13 and 29 he would want to stay. If not, they’ll have money to potentially sign a 1C in FA.

Détails additionnels:
I know they want a RHD to put with Hughes, but they aren’t getting Cuelemans or Peeke in a deadline deal. If they wanted that, they should have let Miller have extension talks with teams this summer. Instead they can take a shot in Hjorth, get a good middle center prospect in Vronkov, and a young scoring wing in Bemstrom.

I agree we most likely have to part with one of the right shot guys. Most likely peeke, as he has the worst upside of the group. However this trade does have a good prospect in voronkov, he is a very interesting prospect. Should be nhl ready and is a big bodied center who will be in North America next season. The Boone Jenner eventual replacement after his deal expires or regression starts.

"sure" to the ANA trade.

I'm fine with the Miller trade - I'd tend to agree that we could get him without giving up CC at TDL, but we'd probably have to include Peeke, particularly since TDL can get pretty stupid. I also really only make that trade if he comes with an extension - I don't want to give up those assets for a glorified try-out (though the hope is it is a very successful try-out).

My other question is, to your point, if Miller walks in FA and we have the cap space, what 1C is going to be available? Larkin, Reilly? Not sure I see a flush market.

The way the cap is, retention is going to be a requirement. Unless, like, AZ decides to get aggressive or something.

Next summer could be insane for FA. Possibly MacKinnon, Larkin, O’Reilly, Barzal, Horvat, Hintz could all wind up testing the market.

I guess, not sure I see those guys hitting UFA, outside of maybe Horvat, or O'Reilly? And I don't want to be the team to give O'Reilly the contract that he is likely going to end up signing.

Then again, probably could have said the same for Gaudreau and Tkachuk last off-season.

Horvat is not hitting free agency. It sounds like he’s going to be extended before the season

That's about the only variety of Miller-to-CBJ proposal I'd go for.

The value is fair for Anaheim if Bean is the guy we want on Drysdale's pairing, and Foudy is an interesting piece.

I'm just not completely convinced Bean is our guy. We also know we are another season from starting to string wins together, this year is about the youth taking another step forward.

If I were running the Canucks I’d ask for Peeke. He reminds me of a younger and potentially better Scott Mayfield. A lot of Brandon Carlo to his game too. He’s a good player.

I really think Larkin and Hintz could be possibilities, as well as Miller. I think O’Reilly is too old at this point, but would take him on a short 1 or 2 year deal if he was willing. Horvat and Mack are the most likely to re-sign IMO.

They can ask as much as they like but it's too soon for us to take that chance. We need to have a better idea of where our guys are going before we can make that sort of move. Doing the RD equivalent of Rask-for-Raycroft would cripple our planned window.
