You gotta figure Jones and Murphy are on the way out as well. I doubt Toews gets that return. Kane is great, but is in his last year of his deal. Doubt he gets that either.

A Lucic cap dump will be expensive for Calgary. With Toews at 50% retention and the Lucic cap dump, that trade isn't unreasonable. Similar idea with Kane, without retention he is easily worth as much as, if not more than, Giroux at the TDL. With 50% retention he is worth even more, and Colton Dach is a pretty decent prospect too. But yeah, Murphy and Jones will probably be on their way out.

Lucic is going to be expensive for Calgary to dump. Toews is not a "shell of the player he was". He had a very rough first half of the season. But the second half and especially the last quarter he looked like his old self. And even in the first half without much offensive production, he was still solid in most other areas of play on an awful Hawks team. I don't think a lot of people realize how serious CIRS is. What he went through was pretty intense stuff. And he was still recovering and trying to get his wind back for most of the 21-22 season. I get the hesitation, but I think he's gonna be fine.

All that may be true but no contenders are going to waste valuable cap space and premium assets to bring in Toews at this point. I think he can be traded but the return would be pretty minimal and ideally a third team needs to get involved for retention. He’d be a good 3C option on a team if an injury pops up for a contender but at 5m+ it’s too much so that’s where the third team comes in. At 2.5m he’s valuable.

No way on the preds trade. Kane is an awesome player but this is way to much to give for someone they can’t afford to keep past one year
