Description

I can see Hextall making one more trade to create a little more wiggle room with the cap space. In the trade, McGinn goes to Winnipeg who needs an upgrade in their bottom-six over options like Harkins and Reichel. The return is Barron who could start in the AHL since he is waivers exempt. Barron could also be an option as a call up if Poehling does not work out. Though I would not prefer McGinn to go, I would much rather the Penguins have the little extra cap space and roster flexibility.

With the top-six, I see Sullivan most likely starting with Guentzel-Crosby-Rust as the top line and then swapping Rust with Rakell based on production. I could see the same swapping with Heinen and Zucker in the middle-six.

O'Connor wins a NHL roster spot and starts with Blueger on the PK. With the McGinn trade, this gets Archibald the final forward spot but I see Poehling and Zohorna getting some time in as well depending on needs. The 2023 Trade Deadline could be used getting a stronger bottom-six forward if the internal options don't pan out.

It will be a dog fight between Ruhwedel, Friedman, Joseph and Smith for the last spot on the third pairing. I ultimately think Smith wins out and I don't think he was acquired to spend a lot of time in the AHL. Not sure what this means for Joseph, maybe a midseason trade?

WPG definitely needs to add a few bodies to meet the roster requirement, but I honestly don't know what they're doing right now lol. They can definitely add some cheap players that add up to the cost of McGinn, but I guess if ownership wants McGinn then this would be fair. I just don't know what WPG's current goal is. They kind of seem like they're teetering on possibly rebuilding soon.

The might be the biggest overvaluing of all time. I can understand that McGinn might not make sense for WPG, but Barron is a promising young nothing. He's a 4th line plug and I could care less if he was in this trade.

This is truth. I love the overvaluing happening on a 23 year old former 6th round pick who has six points in 32 NHL games. You probably just picked something at random to make it seem like we weren't giving him away for nothing.

If the Jets end up filling bottom 6 slots from the remaining pool of UFAs, then they will probably have to start Barron and/or Reichel in the AHL, as Malott and Gustafsson are no longer waivers exempt.

No, why should Winnipeg add a pick to the younger, cheaper, already better player. Barron can continue to get better. McGinn is a struggling, 28 YO replacement level player and at his age, he is what he is.

Lol I’ll just assume you’re a troll. Morgan Barron isn’t better than McGinn. McGinn is already better than Barron even hopes to be. Like Mr Gardoki said, we really don’t care if Winnipeg kept Barron in this deal. He’s a throw away nothing prospect that will likely only amount to a 13/14 F on a good team.
