Kadri In Bailey Out

Description
Dobson and Romanov take bridge deals. I'm not sure what to do about Kieffer Bellows. There's a lot of excess baggage in that bottom 8. Thoughts?

No need for a seventh defenseman on the roster because Bolduc, Salo and Wilde are all waivers-exempt.

They need to clear cap to get Kadri. Teams aren’t going to do Lou favors to get under the cap. Only a few teams can afford to take on Bailey and he’s vastly overpaid in this market. No chance he gets traded for a pick. He’s a cap dump in this market.

Baily shouldn't have negative value, but teams aren't making it cheap to take money these days. Bjorkstrand got just a 3rd and 4th, Pacioretty just future considerations, Nemeth cost a 2nd and 3rd to move, and Burns didn't cost what he should.

All that is to say that I would guess Baily goes for a lower price (perhaps even a lot lower).

Bailey doesn't have negative value, but he doesn't have a lot of value. I think Bailey for Grant and a mid-round pick is fair.

I mean we haven’t seen anyone dumped for the prices you are recommending. At some point you have to decide how valuable cap space is going forward. Bailey’s worst case scenario is he returns a third two deadlines from now and tbh I don’t think you would have an issue moving him by this deadline. 🤷‍♂️

Here’s the question teams need to be asking themselves. Is it worth leaving a good asset on the table because of a fantasy offer that isn’t coming? There’s just no way Bailey is actually a negative asset. And for the analytics crowd who wants to point to his numbers — you have to remember the analytics community is far from perfect. Jfresh literally tweeted that when he tried to project who would lead NHL defenseman in goals next year the model told him it would be Kurtis MacDermid. That’s just a mistake he’s caught. I wonder how many slipped thru the cracks…. And I say that as someone who subscribed to him anyway lol.

In this market theres very little chance Bailey gets any sort of return. At best they can get rid of him for future considerations but even that is unlikely imo. Most likely need to pay something to dump him.

It's not that Bailey the player is a negative value... He isn't he can help a team on a 3rd line and 2nd PP. The problem is he since has 10mil counting towards the cap the next 2 seasons. That is an extremely negative draw. Good teams don't want 5mil on their 3rd line and if he's playing in your top 6 you aren't a good team so why take on the contract without a sweetener. NYI will either have to retain some money, add a sweetner or take back money to make a deal work. And the longer Lou waits the less teams can go a deal with him and the more costly moving him becomes.

I am a jets fan and its the Blake wheeler issue. Playing to high in the lineup as they start aging out. Still productive... hell wheeler had 60 points in 65 games last year but hes not worth anything because on his contract and even if the jets retain 50% he is likely only worth at max a late pick. Doesn't mean he can't help a team on a 3rd line and 2nd PP. There just isn't free money for these players anymore.

I get what ur saying but I don’t really think wheeler is a huge issue issue either. Bad organizations trade picks to get rid of good players. Good organizations don’t.

Incredible. I post an ACGM raising four major issues and get 11 comments, not a single one of which addresses a single one of those four significant issues but instead obsess over the moronically irrelevant speculation of what return is appropriate for Josh Bailey from a team which is weak at RW and only has to pay him $7 million against a $10 million cap hit and is one of my two favorite teams, as if I'd be stiffing the Ducks. Utterly ####ing incredible.

I guess Wednesdays aren't the day to ask people to focus on the subject(s).

Wheeler is an issue. He can't defend any longer and while still a gifted passer he really doesn't do anything in transition. He needs his teammates to do all the work to get him the puck in space to use his passing. He needs to linemates that can defend, drive play and not play elite comp. Plus he makes big money.

Being Cap compliant is the single biggest issue so if your move to be that is to trade Bailey for the cap space... sorry but that is the single biggest issue to deal with so people are talking about it.

The reason you haven’t seen it is because no teams want to pay it. Jackets were going to have to pay a first to dump Nyquist who is coming off a way better year than Bailey and has less term. Teams wanted phillys unprotected first for JVR. Likely a top 5 pick to dump 7 million. Only way Bailey gets that return is half retained at the deadline even then I don’t see it. Isles need to dump some players to sign Kadri

You think that NY being cap compliant, which they are now and are expected to be after re-upping Dobson and Romanov, is a more significant issue than whether or not to sign Nazem Kadri?!? Really?!?!?

The almost $1 million difference in cap hit makes it even more difficult to sign the three RFAs. That's why I think that Beauvillier is a no-go. It almost has to be either Bailey or Varlamov to make Kadri work (Lee and Nelson have NTCs).

Bailey doesn’t have negative value, but he does have a bad contract and is slowly declining.

My guess would be Bailey + mid prospect for a 4th

Got ya. I just figured more suitors would be willing to trade for Beau compared to Bailey but that makes sense from Isles side. I know my canes wouldn’t mind making a move for him and possibly using a third team for retention after the patches situation.
