This is a terrible trade for the isles. Kane isn’t worth that and Raty alone wouldn’t be included in a trade for him

Terrible deal for the islanders. That’s way too much draft capital to give up for Kane. Also Raty is untouchable for obvious reasons.

NYI overall is too old for prospects and picks to have any value. Every team has a prospect like Raty and saying he is untouchable shows not only large team bias but also an ignorance to the overall state of the team.

Even if you think the trade is too much, if NYI give up less then this still works but better so I see no issue there.

I don't think Kane is worth more than a 1st and propsect, but the trade ALSO dumps salary and gets back a salary retained dman. Ultimately though 'trade balance' is less relevant here as simply accomplishing win now goals for an old team with moving out assets that don't help that.

Although it likely should have had Kane double retained and found a way to keep Beau and scratched out blackwell but overall not that serious of a thing

The idea that a team can be “too old to value picks and prospects” is beyond ridiculous. If you aren’t getting younger then you aren’t getting better.

Dumping Bailey doesn’t make this trade any better if ur also moving Beauvillier, Raty, Bolduc, TWO FIRSTS and TWO SECONDS. You have to be realistic here. This is a brutal take on your part.

Every team does not have a prospect like Raty, plus Raty has a good shot to make the islanders out of camp this season. He’s not untouchable, but he’s not definitely not getting traded for Patrick Kane. Any trade including Raty would have to include a younger top line forward with term.

This trade does not make the isles a better team, so it’s not a “win-now” move

Not only does he not have value, he was one of the worst defenseman at even strength in the league last season.

Romanov is terrible and got a 1st rounder.

That said NYI could also easily bring back De Haan for example so there are other options but that's less fun.

Again, if the goal is to do what I did and it ends up being cheaper, then all the better.

Enjoy that blue and orange kool aid fam.

I'll restate it again though: NYI couldn't give a flying **** about younger forwards because they have 2-3 years max left in their window. Its why they are willing to sign a 32 year old Kadri until he is 39, because in a few years from now the team will be hot trash so they only care about the now.

Your opinion is nothing more than delusional NYI fan and has no basis in reality because you are valuing what you wish would be true rather than what actually is. Your high risk boom/bust prospect fell all the way to 52nd overall for a reason and he isn't some special star player, NYI is just a bottom 5ish prospect system so there is literally no one else worth a damn to get excited about.

Sure it is it, but there is nothing wrong with that because the overpay doesn't really matter. Also as I have said before overpays are way better on here than underpays because it means the goal still likely happens but its just better. I'd take an overpay over 99% of the deals on here where people trade a 2nd and trash prospects for other teams stars

Don't you recall what DeBrincat went for? A younger RFA forward? Kane is in his 30s with 1 year left, and while World Juniors aren't the best indicators of how a player will turn out he is still doing very good. AT MOST Kane will get you Beau, Dufour a 1st and a 2nd thats if you are lucky. And since Kane will be a TDL trade too it will be less

Not a Chi fan fam. I said above I think Kane will get a 1st and a prospect, so pretty much the Giroux type deal.

Sure.
1) thats good because its easy to take things out of deal rather than add
2) it was excessive to prove a point, which is that nothing NYI gave away really matters. The only thing they are REALLY losing is the opportunity cost of not using those assets for something else that could help but given how bad NYI's cap structure is it would be hard to do too much anyways. They could give up even more tbh and all that matters is they get the players that they want whoever that happens to be.

The downside is that the team doesn't have a lot of cap space and doesn't have many years left in their window. However the bright side of that is pretty much nothing matters except for getting the best possible win now players, cost be damned

I mean the isles don’t need to trade Raty to fix their cap issues. It’s a terrible idea. The team has a few overpaid wingers and that’s really it. Bailey comes off the books by the time Soroky needs a new deal. Palmieri and Lee come off a year or two years after that.

And if you are worried about Wally or Barzy then you should remember Varly is coming off the books.

I couldn't care less who agree's with me. No one ever makes anything on here with the goal of making people agree, you'll almost never find an opinion worth mattering on a message board or an armchair GM tool. All that matters is explaining the thought process behind how I did the things I did and the people who will get it get it and whoever wont wont. I mostly just like talking about hockey so any excuse to do so is fun.

Especially as something as rough and quickly put together as this which is essentially "can NYI add Kadri another high end forward and a Dman and have it work" thing put together in like 2 minutes

2 years from now NYI wont be a relevant team anymore is kinda my point. In 4 years NYI is likely trading or has traded away all of those players anyways because they'll be in a rebuild

But why? They have a good top four defense, an elite starter and Mat Barzal. Doesn’t really matter if their prospect pool is thin if Raty hits. Having two high end centers is more important than having good wingers.

Calling McCabe a d man is a stretch. And kane is 34.
