Seeing the Suzuki name always confuses me, so I need to remind myself that it's not the Suzuki from Montreal.
That being said, yes this is a large underpay for LA's undisputed #1LD. If he was available in trade --he's not--, the Kings would need much more than a 21 year old who hasn't cracked the NHL at all (I'm fairly low on Suzuki, honestly) and a late 2nd pick. I'm talking a first and a real good prospect, a top-6 winger, or a can't-miss goalie. Personally, I don't see anything in Carolina's system that matches any of those three options that makes sense for both teams. They have good prospects, but there's a lot of overlap with the types of prospects LA already has. And it's counter-productive for LA, who is now switching AWAY from the rebuild to become a contending team, to suddenly trade their top left defenseman when it's not an area they have back-ups ready for. Heck, that's the side they want to address with a guy like Chychrun or Sanheim. And the top-6 wingers you guys have don't fit the Kings cap situation or you wouldn't want to move them.
Also, I don't like this move for Carolina anyway. Mikey would be completely under-utilized on a third pair. Don't get me wrong, he'd be the best 3rd pair D in the game, but he's so much better than that.
