gonna repost this from the last time this same acgm was made:

What this highlights is how lackluster Sweeney and the scouting department is when it comes to evaluating prospective talent.

Since this draft, they've only hit on a handful of guys; the most recent NHLer they've drafted to play an NHL game was from the 2017 draft, and the handful of guys who did make it are either not going to go far or got traded. Aside of Lysell none of their prospects are anything to write home about. Granted, the Bruins haven't had many high end picks due to either trading them or just performance, but not being able to identify and develop any mid-draft players is what's been holding them back from getting the most out of the remaining Bergeron/Marchand years.

Aho went 35th overall in 2015

Cernak went 43rd

Cirelli went 72nd.

There's 3 more Candidates. I know Cernak and Cirelli aren't the same caliber, but there's some fantastic options

With Marchand and Connor as top 6 LWs, we probably don’t have Hall either.

We still got Carlo and Lauzon in later rounds. Plus for being taken in the middle of the first round, DeBrusk really wasn’t such a bad pick. He has scored 25 goals and above in 2 seasons.

Anyone who takes Barzal over Aho at center is foolish. Aho’s lowest single season goal total is more than Barzal’s best. Barzal better playnaker and defender. I’d take Aho over him all day.

Kap would be piece 2.

Piece 3 could be debated all day. Likely one of those 3. Couple other options could be considered as well.

Boesser at RW would be more of a roster fit.

I like all of those players but Aho is the only realistic one at 13/14/15 in my opinion. Connor, Kapriov & Aho.

I clearly should have remembered Aho was taken in this draft. Connor/Kaprizov/Aho would be my choices.

Beauvillier deserves a mention. He scores regularly for the Islanders, and that is where goals go to die.

With Barzal and Connor's deals, you wouldn't have had cap space for other players like Hall, and probably a few others, to start with.

Aho is so much better. He is a year in and year out basically 40 goal scorer point per game guy. He is a weapon all over the ice, power play and penalty kill. If there’s a perfect player in the nhl, it’s him.

Just so everyone knows, at the time of Boston's picks in 2015 the best 3 players available were: Barzal, Connor, Zboril.

Barzal dropped because of a knee injury and lack of goal scoring which has held true in the NHL.

Chabot was all offense no defense. With Krug and Grizz there, exactly what they did not need. Zboril was bigger and a shut down guy, more what they needed to replace Chara eventually.

That damn Seny pick. Had the just taken Connor, Barzal, Boesser. Aho, JEE, anyone.. nobody would say boo about that draft. 😩

I'm always curious whether it ends up coming from a poor-development standpoint, or an inability to find talent. As a Ducks fan, Bob Murray was in a similar situation as Sweeney over the years (typically drafting late), and basically flopped on most of his picks as well.

I agree with you, I'm sure that Ari/NJ/FLA and Dallas maybe even the Flyers would love a shot at changing their pick from that draft as it was stacked and produced a ton of talent.
But could you imagine the cap hell and roster choices they would of had to make. That would of been one of the more interesting fallouts of them draft three of the other guys mentioned

Right but those guys weren’t expected to go where Boston drafted. The three listed above were literally next ones on most of the experts boards. Which is why they were the next three picks. Boston went reaching big time. So did Dallas right before Boston, but at least Nill only whiffed once (ducks)
