He’s reportedly signing 2x3. Could see something like this being a base package but tough to project out a year for either player.

There will be some interesting decisions to be made. They need to hope the cap goes up AND move Manson to sign Newhook and Byram in 2 years. Also Rantanen is up too.

Yes, they can get vets to sign cheap deals to contend, but at some point they need to keep their picks or draft extremely well.

Girard is a luxury IMO with Makar, Toews and Byram.

Looking at the 3rd line before those 2 signings and trade was not pretty.

Carolina don't have the space to take on Girard. They also already have a log jam on defense. If Colorado could take back something like Martinook who is a good bottom six forward who makes the salary even, I could see this working (obviously, you can work out the rest of the additions later) but I struggle to see a fit.

Canes need to replace/re-sign Raanta, Andersen, Staal, Fast, Kase, Pacioretty, Bear, Coghlan. AND they still need to have cap for re-signing Aho, Pesce, Teravainen, Jarvis... replacing/re-signing Skjei, Necas (if his rumored 2 year x 3 million extension is real). Cap is still a worry, Colorado would still have to take more money back.

CAR needs to add something nice, if that means taking a contract to balance some so be it as long as it isn’t a long term deal.

Oh for Colorado absolutely will be an interesting one. I meant more for Carolina. The top-4 is pretty solid and I don't know how comfortable I would be offering 3 LHDs 5M+ each. Seems a little overkill to me.

But Girard could be a mainstay and we could move on from Skjei and for Colorado they get a viable middle-6 guy on a cheaper 'prove your worth' kind of deal so at the end of the day, it's good business for both teams.

Canes pass. Girard would be our 3LD. No need to waste that cap on an undersized 3LD

The difference in the salaries was 1.25million. Come on

Necas has reportedly signed a 2 year 3 million deal, so the difference in salaries is closer to 2 mil. That is not insignificant. I ignored the ridiculous overpayment here for that reason.
