Going for it all but at a cost

Description
Barzal returns to his B.C. roots in a swap for JT Miller, partial retention, and future draft picks. He is the better player in the deal; both have 1 year left on deals but Barzal is also RFA; hence the return.
NYI get a top line player and more affordable contract.

Then trade LW with Detroit straight up with Bertuzzi for Beauvillier who has 2 years of team control as is younger; thus the partial retention on that deal as well. Detroit gets younger and has an asset under team control for 2 years.

Then the UFA signing of Kadri comes in to complete the roster and playoff hopes renew in Long Island. The identity of this whole team is hard work, 200' game, and can roll out 3 scoring lines along with the grinders. Keep the goalie duo intact to ensure a deep playoff run is in the cards.

Miller and Bertuzzi extensions can get paid for by Varlamov's contract coming off next year then a new backup goalie can be found in the $1-2 million range.

Taveres was a top 10 center in the league when he was with the isles, if the isels were able to get a top 5 winger to play with him sure, Taveres being #1C lets Barzal feed on worse competition, also Barzal played on the power play with Tavers that year The isles also played a offensive system that year as well, Barzal's draft comparsion was Grouix which seems about right, a guy that was a 70-80 point guy in most of his prime, i am not saying he will never hit 80 again, i think he does how ever he isn't a 90-100 point player

Top lines / D pairs were matched up against Barzal, not Tavares lmao how can you be wrong so many times on one thread

I'm tempted to call this ACGM a "win" since both teams hate it!

Defense is few and far between so how Vancouver improves their D doesn't have to be the sole reason for every trade. This trade was designed to help both teams: Canucks get elite offense with term. Islanders retain elite talent, futures, and free up cap space for Kadri.

Canucks fans hate every trade that isn’t giving up 4x what that player is worth.

The isles main needs are : play driving + to get younger and faster. Trading Barzal doesn’t solve that.

This sends the isles straight back into the Milbury era. I don’t think there’s one good argument that this makes the isles a better team. You’re basically saying that the isles need to prioritize kadri over Barzal, which isn’t happening. Isles draft pick would be in the 5-8 range.

I understand what you are saying your preference is for the Isles needs; but it doesn't appear there is much focus on developing youth there but more on the current playoff window. Adding JT Miller AND Nazem Kadri was my priority to give them deeper scoring punch while also adding futures for when the window closes and they are rebuilding/retooling.

I see a possible Barzal RFA issue similiar to Tkachuk and was trying to propose a "Matt Duchene" type haul for moving him now when his value is at the peak.

I know how to solve this issue. Just swap Beau and Barzal in your scenarios and the Wings will say thank you and slip out leaving undetected lol

One of the main reasons Barry Trotz was fired was because of how he handled the isles young players. Adding Miller and Kadri turns the isles into a worse version of the San Jose sharks. Their quality of teammates will be significantly worse which will lead to worse underlying numbers and counting stats. Kadri + Miller would struggle to hit 50 pts on the isles .

You can say that about every RFA with arb rights, there’s been no indication that he wants out, and if he does it would definitely not be for an old JT Miller. The isles don’t have to make that decision now and Lou wouldn’t be the one making that trade. I personally would not care that much if Barzal wanted out , but I don’t think that’s the case. His GF is from Ny and he just bought an apartment recently .

A Barzal trade would have to be similar to Eichel trade. An A center prospect, 1st , 2nd and a young top 6 F in his prime

Bertuzzi = 30 goal scorer for Beauvillier a guy that can't get to 20 goals or 40 points the past 4 season....and you think that would get it done?

get real

JT Miller is well below average defensively. He's also not good on the PK.

Barzal TOI with Tavares: 22 min

without Tavares: 1104 min

Barzal was the 1C, teams put their top D pairs against his line because they were much better than Tavares line.

So they didn't play power play together? Tavares also had 200 minutes more than Barzal in 17-18, would that not make Tavares the #1C?

Sorokin almost carried one of the lowest scoring teams into the playoffs last season. Barzal contributed exactly what? Oh right, not much because the offense was utterly anemic.

Sorokin did not almost carry them into the playoffs. The isles weren’t close to making the playoffs - and that has nothing to do with the fact that Barzal carried the team to two straight ECF

Sorokin had the second highest GSAA last season. Isles are a dumpster team without him last year. Without Barzal? Not much changes. They go from being anemic on offense to still being anemic on offense. He's a 60 point player as a 1C because he's not a 1C, he's a mid 6 forward.
