The Stone was objectively really bad. Ottawa had the opportunity to extend him long term (presumably below 9mil AAV) and name him captain, OR trade him as an RFA when he'd have been WAY more valuable than what they got.

The Mark Stone signing was for the 7.35 x 1 he signed with Ottawa and not the contract he signed with Vegas.

Some of these made sense at the point of signing - like Andersen was coming off a terrible year with Toronto, Tanev is (was?) incredibly injury prone and signed that into his mid 30s, guys like Bennett and Wilson hadn't really proved they earned that money.

Typically, the consensus on this site either we don't like high salary contracts or mid salary contracts well into the later stages of a players career.

Slavin being considered a bad contract is mental. and just looking at the thread for Andersen, so many clowns were proven wrong. Many people knocking down Andersen because he played behind a team with a garbage dcore and was used as the scape goat, whilst also praising Ned for the efforts of the team in front of him. Ned had a great season with the Canes, but he in no way deserved to be a Calder finalist. Plus, the only reason he got a shot that year was because Mrazek and Reimer got injured. The difference is night and day with Ned’s success when he has an elite dcore in front compared to the one he has in Detroit. Goalies tend to do well in Carolina and end up will slightly inflated stats because of the team in front. The most notable case was Ned and Mrazek. So I’m so glad so many people ate their words.

Wilson was risky, but even for what he was at the time, it wasn't a bad deal. Was it great? No... but he wasn't overpaid. A little player generous. But even then, that's one of them. Vasilevskiy was a bonafide starter when he signed that deal. Slavin was an elite 1LD when he signed his 8 year deal (although Carolina were not great, he was a sensational player at the time, that hasn't really changed). Andersen was coming off a season where he was forced to play through an injury and was going into a defensively sound system as opposed to a run and gun Toronto team. Like... I get why the Kreider contract, or Zucarrelo, or Bobrovsky would be seen as bad. But others here just astound me.

Kopitar,: 2 cups, 2 Selkes, 1 Byng, 1 Messier

About to have two 30-goal scorers on his wing for the first time since nearly a decade .

People will never understand the value he brings. Making fun of the Doughty contract I can understand, but Kopitar, no way, he earned it if only for growing LA's value, ticket sales, and is one of the cleanest players in the league.

Andersen was legitimately terrible in 2021 and was fighting a ton of injures. I'm happy he rebounding but acting like Toronto's d-core ruined when when Campbell didn't have any problems behind it isn't a good rationale.

Majorly disagree. I think his stats were always going to be hampered by Toronto's D core being pylons. Andersen isn't an injury prone netminder. They made him play through a LBI and it tanked his stats. We all saw that on the Amazon Documentary. If Andersen stayed healthy, it was a good deal. Shockingly, he stayed healthy and should have been a Vezina finalist.

Actually hilarious to say "Andersen isn't an injury prone netminder" when he's been injured at least once every season since 2018.

He missed your team's entire playoff run.

Raanta is an injury prone netminder. Raanta plays 5 games and has a different ailment. Got blown up against Florida by Lomberg, did his MCL in game 7, had a neck issue in game 2 against Boston.

Freddie suffering a little issue every now and again and trying to say "oh he's injury prone" is comical. It's almost like all hockey players suffer injuries.

My favourite little issue is a torn MCL.

Most of them I can understand why at the time they were signed people thought they were poor deals. But wow, absolutely astounding to see Vasi and Slavin on this list.

Not to mention a great veteran presence on the team for the young guys. always believed that Kopitar was heavily underrated

Precisely why I don’t vote once a contract is signed as there’s no way to tell until after games have been played
