I assume this is a troll post, but a bad team giving up 4 firsts for a rental is a pretty terrible idea, regardless of how good they are or the AAV.

First of all max contract cap hit is 15.9 mil so 20 mil cannot happen. 2nd there isn't a player in the league worth offersheeting for 4 1sts. This isn't the NBA, a star player can't carry the whole team on their back.

Our atrocious drafting would have made any of those 1sts useless to us except as trade bait. Seeing as good 'ol Regier and then Murray were our GM's I have no confidence it would have worked out. Even then, the trade tree for Vanek left us with absolutely nothing. The reason we haven't had success since is because of incompetent management. Completely disagree. I mean, yes, Sabres management has sucked, but aren't you proving yourself wrong? You said no one is worth 4 1sts and now you are saying Vanek was worth them because mgmt couldn't draft. Which one is it?

Murray was not the GM by the way at that time and EDM drafted really high for many of those years. I completely disagree with you.

Maybe EDM would have been better with Vanek, but they were still a bad team. Go look at the players picked in the top 10 in those years. Without Vanek, the Sabres would have been drafting higher too.

Anyway, I feel bad for you. Sounds like you are young and only know the Sabres as a horrible team.

Don't feel bad for me, I have optimism unlike most Sabres fans it would seem. I'm always pumped for the season. We aren't going to be a bad team this coming season and we are trending up quickly
