Imagine being ANGRY you signed Huberdeau

Description
I cannot understand why the same fans who wanted to see Gaudreau on an 8 year deal are upset that they got Huberdeau for 9 years. In the past 4 seasons these 2 players results were virtually identical. Huberdeau seems slightly more stable in point production with slightly less scoring. Both players play with their brains more than their bodies. Your GM pulled off a miracle based on where things were heading and you are crapping all over him.

The team will obviously be worse minus one superstar, but it could have been soooo much worse.

What do you all have against Huberdeau. The fact that he's 1 year older than Gaudreau? Big deal. He's gonna be amazing for the next 6-7 years and then will drop off. The cap growth will take care of that problem over the next 7-8 years.

Who are the Flames fans that are angry? I for one am very happy with the deal. The whole "it will age bad" thing is bull**** and people pretend the cap isn't going to be over 100M by the time that's relevant. And if for some reason it's not due to an economic meltdown then hockey contracts are the least of our worries

There are tons of articles today about it. People screaming that in years 5-8 he's gonna be overpaid. Lunatics every one of them!

Every long term deal on an older player is like that. Not the end of the world

Agreed...I haven't personally seen any Flames fans upset with it. I've seen some Habs fans on twitter that thought he would inevitably end up in MTL acting as if they would have been upset with a 7 year deal and absolutely wouldn't give him more than 5 (Lolz), but other than that, if anyone in Calgary is upset, they need to get their heads checked.

You should get five good years of him. If they win a cup in that time it doesn’t matter.

If he puts up 100 pts again it’s a good deal but I wouldn’t bet on it he probably regresses back to 70-80 pts like he’s done most of his career

Worse case he ages like Wheeler who at 35 paced 75 points this year. Maybe a bit less than that because Wheeler is a health nut

I would assume it’s going to be worse cause wheeler is a 6-5 health nut.

The health part I agree with but even as a 60 point player at that point it's fine. The cap should start taking jumps again in 24/25 with the escrow dropping down to 6% in 23/24

The Huberdeau, like Gaudreau deal, is bad for 8 years. Huberdeau’s is slightly worse because it starts one year later.

Unless Sutter says screw defense I want offense (like florida did), Huberdeau will likely be a 80-90 point player.

The bigger thing is going to be if lindholm ages well. Idk what his statistical comparisons would be but as long as he is good the flames and Huberdeau will be fine.

Lindholm will likely age similar to Couturier who I expect to still be a ~70 point player even without Giroux.

I’m sure Toronto fans said that when they signed Taveres and the 18-19 cap was 79.5 M here we are 5 years later with a cap of 82.5 M.

Honestly I think the contract is fine for Atleast 5-6 years and with lucic and Monahan expiring after this season I don’t see the flames having cap issues for a couple seasons unless they go wild in ufa next offseason.

In fact he's had equivalent or better point production than Mitch Marner the past 4 seasons and at a significantly lower cap hit. Better goal production most seasons as well. I'd say the two players are fairly similar, wouldn't you?

well sure but factoring in health is kinda pointless as it's unpredictable usually

Agreed that the Flames don't have any good Center prospects who look like legit top 6 players. If I was Calgary's GM I would trade one of Pelletier or Coronado for a Center prospect who projects to develop into the top 6 of an NHL team.

He's less a Tavares and more of a Marner which is a good thing for the Flames.

I’ll be the first one to admit (as a salty Blues fan we couldn’t get Tkachuk) the Flames won this trade hard. I mean even if Weegs doesn’t stay, Hub is lowkey the better player. If they could find a RW goal scorer, the line of Hub and Lindholm will be better than Tkachuk and Gaudreau.
