Description
Go all in but make sure we get some youthful players especially if they are in the league already. And also gotta be sure we don’t pull a Zito and have high round draft picks gone.

…I think Hextall is rubbing off on me. I see opportunities to trade a 1st but at the same time I feel resistant to it 😂

Détails additionnels:
This one’s a risky one for Pittsburgh. It’s a price that can pay off but Drouin has dealt with a good amount of injuries. Not to mention the 2021 playoffs he spent injured as well. He’s good but man those injuries get in the way of his value. Good thing for the Habs is they free up more cap space again and get a good top 4 defencemen. They’d have a pretty bolstered LD side.

Habs decline. Too many LD on depth chart and probably wants that money invested elsewhere

Habs don't save any money because Pettersson has an extra year on that contract. Rather keep Drouin and let that cap space be free for next year then have another contract

Kirby Dach still needs a contract and there is currently not enough cap space. I don’t think he’ll get paid much though which is what the good thing about this trade would be for Montreal. Is having some cap space to work with to make a deal with Dach. Looking to next season there’s only Caufield to pay and they can still put that extra money elsewhere next season. Let’s say adding a more capable RHD playing top 4 minutes and after this season make a decision on who they like more between Edmundson and Pettersson and then they’ll have a young LHD come up from the system to play in the top 6.

Pettersson is good. Habs would be lucky to have him if they were ready to compete, but as a few of my fellow Habs supporters have said, we have a plethora of LHD prospects and this would block them from being able to develop since Matheson, Edmundson and Petterson would all be too good to push aside for some rookies.

Byron is injured so he could go on LTIR
Price probably don’t even return so maybe LTIR as well
Edmundson Matheson are top 4 bounded
Harris is already NHL ready
Guhle probably will be, but will start in Laval unless he outplay Harris
Petterson has 3 years remaining vs Drouin 1 year
That’s not a good deal for MTL

Check back in at the deadline for Graves as I doubt they extend him with Luke Hughes up next year

It seems like a good deadline deal depending on if New Jersey is in a playoff spot or not. Or if they decide they don’t want to extend Graves or have no plan to extend him.

That would be understandable but with Byron he’s going to be a guy to play games. For Price he can be LTIR. Still won’t know till next month.

https://www.pensburgh.com/platform/amp/2022/6/8/23159317/2021-22-season-in-review-marcus-pettersson

Pettersson may have been a defencemen playing in the top 4 with Marino but logged 5th in ice time among our defencemen. It doesn’t mean he wasn’t doing nothing during that. He had played a role in being apart of Pittsburghs solid defence for a majority of the season. The problem was there was too much defensive minded defencemen from the blue line. And I guess Sully seen that and decided to cut Pettersson’s minutes down all the more in the last two months of the regular season. You speak as you thought you were on to something. Pettersson also logged in 4th most minutes played from our defencemen in the series against the Rangers

I feel it would be more about distant futures than another 22 yr old LHD. With Hughes making the team next year, and likely one of the many LHD prospects the Devils getting time to earn that spot this year, the Devils have to replenish for down the road or aim to get more young (18-19yr old) forwards that will be able to replace all those moving up in the system (Mercer, Holtz, Foote, Zetterlund, Thompson, etc).

Byron could be sent down in the minor if he comes back from injury. Dach would have to take a 1 year deal around 1.5M and with Byron in the minors we would be cap compliant. Didn’t double check but it might be possible. Or MTL trade someone whenever Byron is back, or Price get injured again and he goes on LTIR. So many options, I think Hughes know what he’s doing

I don’t doubt Hughes. He got some good returns for some trades.
