With Benn the only problem is Burns >>>>>>>> Benn.

Not a single team wants Benn with or without retention.

i guess the offset here is that there's a dump coming back. may still be too much coming back though.... or not enough retention

so odd how one of the most dominant lines just a few years ago has become one of the worst first lines and certainly the worst dollar per value "top" lines ... if we can even call it that any more.

I suppose a Foudy-Dellandrea mutual change-of-scenery trade might be workable.

That's absolute garbage.

He's a 50 point guy still.

Contract is his only issue.

Dare I say I wouldn’t be opposed to the Benn deal. Having a big physical player like Benn alongside Zegras and Terry could be a smart movie to have a big physical player to play the net.

That being said. I do think there needs to be retention because his contract is pretty rough. Silfverberg’s contract is almost expiring so it’s not awful.

My ask would be:

Silfverberg
Andersson / Sundsvik etc.

however the rate of decline is much sharper with Benn than it is Burns. If both guys made the same amount, Burns still would carry more value. Still, I think the situation is similar enough that Benn can gain some value.... but it will be hard to find a team willing to give a lot of value unless the retention puts Dallas in an uncomfortable spot.

One may argue this return is too low, and I am always someone who welcomes counters, but an already declining Benn with 4 years left will be difficult to get too much more out of unless he turns it around big time this year. I'd say this is his last year before he's in true cap dump territory.

As much as I loved watching Benn as a player, dude was not the same this year. On a line with Z amd Terry he probably looks like a pylon. His decline this year was steep, and at age 33 with a very physical game, I dont see him being able to halt that much, even at 7.5 for two years going to be a rough contract.

If he, and Seguin can bounce back this year it'll save their value, and maybe their careers in Dallas. Benn can probably ride his deal out, but if Seguin looks like last year, he is squarely in Ryan Kesler territory.

I agree, plus Burns plays a more valuable position.

Just the idea of "not one team wanting him, retention or not" is absolute garbage to me.

Seen this Hayes/ Seguin swap before, not a huge fan of any of the additions… truthfully, I think Ronnie is the best piece in the trade

Three years of term on Benn's contract is more than pretty rough. He's already been declining for the past 4 years so projecting that out to the end of the contract when he's 36 is going to be horrible.

The smart play for the Ducks is to just keep Silfverberg and see what he does this season. If he has more injury problems then he becomes a candidate to LTIR. Next summer with only one year left on his contract a buy out becomes fairly reasonable as another option.

Yeah, that's a MASSIVE issue. The only way it makes any sense from the other team's perspective is if you retain 50% and they don't have to give up much. Jamie Benn might be the worst contract in the NHL right now.

If it was longer I agree, but he has certain impact and it's only 3 years left.

Vlasic is easily the worst. He costs 7 mil but plays line he's worth 1,5.

Benn's points would give him like 4 from the open market still.
