The difficult part might be getting Necas to agree to 3M. But that’s it

He can agree to it or sit out…Canes could be playing hardball with him. He’d be smart to take 3m x 2 and get right.

The fact that you think it’s that simple is ridiculous. Be as is not signing that. You don’t just play hardball with a guy that deserves a mil more at the least. He also isn’t settling for fourth line minutes. The yotes aren’t taking that. It’s clear they wanna be as bad as possible. If they wanted an Ethan bear, they could’ve got a player like him in FA without giving anything up. It’s a flat cap world. It’s not that simple

It’s been reported that the Canes and Necas are getting close on a deal at about 3mil x 2 years. So that contract isn’t all out of the realm of possibility.

As for the Bear trade, a team will probably pay a 2nd or 3rd rounder for Bear. It won’t be Arizona, but a team looking for RD, like the Canucks.

Call me crazy, but I don’t think the Canes signed Bear to trade him. I think he’s insurance at this point in case Burns falters/gets injured or for the 3rd pair as he’s easily the most experienced out of Chatfield and Coghlan and he already knows the Canes’ system. Defenseman seem to take longer to adjust.

Now, trading Bear mid-season, if Coghlan and Chatfield show well, sure, I could see, but I don’t see him going anywhere in the immediate future.

I’d be willing to put money he’s traded. He was signed to avoid Arb and get a know cap amount. 2.2m is a palatable price for a RFA RHD who will maintain RFA status. Too bad it won’t be for the Canes…

Burns gets injured... he's not missed a game since 2014. Reliability shouldn't be a worry with him. Plus, if you want another powerplay quarterback, I don't know where they could find one. Oh hey look, there's a slightly use Jake Gardiner!

Don’t see it. They’re going to need some experience on that 3rd pair. Bionic Gardiner and Chatfield/Coghlan ain’t it, at least not yet.

Gardiner brings experience. He's played in many playoff games against Boston and... well he played in many playoff games!

Being serious, people forget how good Gardiner is when he's healthy. He's not Hamilton, but he'll be a good point producing 2nd pairing D man. Is he what he used to be? That is yet to be seen. And while he's not special defensively, there are far worse players in the league in their own end than Gardiner. Analytically, he is (was?) replacement level defensively. His offense and play driving far outweights his defensive mishaps. I really want to see him with this Canes offense with how it is set out.

He’s over a year removed from playing competitive hockey and he’s another year past 30. Just don’t see him playing again, especially not in Raleigh.

He's playing in the Minnesotan summer league. He's playing hockey, and while it's not ultra-competitive, the likes of Brady Skjei, Justin Faulk, and Derek Stepan all play in it too. We know from experience none of those guys like to lose, so it will have a competitive aspect. It's already been made very clear he's playing again, with a M-NTC (anti-canada clause) it may be hard to move him to another team. If it was going to be that easy, they would have done it by now. Look at when they dumped De Haan in Chicago. He'll play again and in Raleigh

I’ll bet that he’s a UFA 48hrs or less after August 9th.

If he’s been “medically cleared to play” and was on the reserve list as of last years trade deadline, he’s very eligible to be bought out.

Friedman addressed this in a 32 thoughts episode before the draft, Gardiner cannot be boughtout. He could be terminated, but you would need him to agree to that, and he won't.

Not really buying that without a direct link or quote specific to Gardiner, but whatevs. The 2nd buyout window is different than the 1st.

Waddell made it a point just today to talk about a buyout only being available to for a player making more than. $4M.

“ Reaching a settlement with Lajoie would allow the Hurricanes a contract buyout window, Waddell said. He did not say if the team would use the buyout, but it could be used to free up cap space. “A buyout window is only for a player who makes more than $4 million,” Waddell said. “But if we don’t do anything, we’re going to be fine. It will be tight but we’ll be fine.”

I don’t think he’d be mentioning that if buying out Gardiner weren’t a possibility. DeCock also wouldn’t be mentioning it as well were it not possible.

Yes, it is Cardiac Cane, but if the infortmation here is coming from PuckPedia, it's viable. Gardiner won't be buyout eligible without doing his year end medical. Fair assumption he hasn't done it yet seeing as he hasn't been in Raleigh since the Tampa series.

Friedman did say it, but if you expect me to go through every 32 thoughts podcast until I find the exact quote, you're insane. If Puckpedia is saying he's not buyout eligible, he's not buyout eligible. If you want to live in denial, sure. But that is good enough for me.

Have seen a couple times on here ppl referencing rumors around Necas getting close to a deal. Where are you seeing that? Not questioning, just haven’t seen anything myself yet but haven’t been poking around much today. Would be happy if they could figure it out sooner rather than later.

Deserved based on what? I thought maybe a bridge deal around 3.5 would be fair but based on recent comps after a disappointing year I don’t think 2x3 is a slap in the face at all. I’m a big Necas fan and hope they can figure it out because I’d hate to see him move elsewhere and explode (a la lindholm) but I don’t think he’s earned a big deal yet.

And look up how they handled James Wisniewski…
